Abu Harb bin Abu al-Aswad narrated on the authority of his father that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (رضي الله تعالى عنه) sent for the reciters of Basra. They came to him, and they were three hundred in number. They recited the Qur'an and he said, ‘you are the best among the inhabitants of Basra, for you are the reciters among them. So, continue to recite it. (But bear in mind) that your reciting for a long time may not harden your hearts as were hardened the hearts of those before you. We used to recite a surah which resembled in length and severity to (Surah) Bara'at (At-Tawba). I have, however, forgotten it with the exception of this which I remember out of it -
ْلَو ََّ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِالْ فكَانَ الِبْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ مَالٍ الَبْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا وَالَ يَمْألُ جَو َُاب التُّر [If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust]. And we used so recite a surah which resembled one of the surahs of Musabbihat, and I have forgotten it, but remember (this much) out of it –
َيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَ تَقُولُون َمَا الَ تَفْعَلُون [O people who believe, why do you say that which you do not practice]. (As-Saff - 2.).
And -
ِْ مَ الْقِيَامَةفَتُكْتَبُ شَهَادَةً فِي أَعْنَاقِكُمْ فَتُسْأَلُونَ عَنْهَا يَو [that is recorded in your necks as a witness (against you) and you would be asked about it on the Day of Resurrection]. (Al-Isra -13).
حضرت ابو موسی اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے اہل بصرہ کے قاریوں کو بلوایا تو ان کے پاس تین سو (300) آدمی آئے جو قرآن پڑھ چکے تھے تو انھوں نے کہا تم اہل بصرہ کے بہترین افراد اور ان کے قاری ہو قرآن پڑھتے رہا کرو کہیں طویل مدت گزرنے سے تمھارے دل سخت نہ ہو جائیں جیسا کہ تم سے پہلے لوگوں کے دل سخت ہو گئے۔ اور ہم ایک سورۃ پڑھا کرتے تھے جسے ہم طوالت اور (وعیدوں) کی سختی میں سورۃ براۃ سے تشبیہ دیا کرتے۔ تو میں اسے بھول گیا ہاں اس کا یہ ٹکڑا مجھے یاد ہے اگر آدمی کے پاس مال کے دو میدان ہوں تو وہ تیسرا میدان چاہے گا اور آدمی کے پیٹ کو مٹی ہی بھرے گی اور ہم ایک سورۃ پڑھا کرتے تھے جس کو ہم مسبحات کی سورت سے تشیبہ دیا کرتے تھے اس کو بھی میں بھلا چکا ہوں ہاں اس سے مجھے یہ یاد ہے ”اے ایمان والو! ایسی بات کا دعوی کیوں کرتے ہو جو کرتے نہیں ہو وہ گواہی کے طور پر تمھاری گردنوں میں لکھ دی جائے گی اور قیامت کے دن تم سے اس کے بارے میں سوال ہو گا۔“
Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne ahl-e-Basra ke qariyon ko bulwaya toh un ke paas teen sau (300) aadmi aaye jo Quran parh chukay thay toh unhon ne kaha tum ahl-e-Basra ke behtareen afrad aur un ke qari ho Quran parhtay raha karo kahein taveel muddat guzarne se tumhare dil sakht na ho jayein jaisa ke tum se pehle logon ke dil sakht ho gaye. Aur hum ek surah parha karte thay jisay hum taveelat aur (waeedon) ki sakhti mein Surah Baraat se tashbeeh diya karte. Toh main isay bhool gaya haan is ka yeh tukra mujhe yaad hai agar aadmi ke paas maal ke do maidan hon toh woh teesra maidan chahe ga aur aadmi ke pait ko mitti hi bhare ga aur hum ek surah parha karte thay jis ko hum Musabbihat ki surat se tashbeeh diya karte thay is ko bhi main bhula chuka hoon haan is se mujhe yeh yaad hai "Ae iman walo! aisi baat ka dawa kyun karte ho jo karte nahi ho woh gawahi ke taur par tumhari gardanon mein likh di jaye gi aur qiyamat ke din tum se is ke baray mein sawal ho ga."
