Chapter: The reward of the one who does not fast when travelling if he does any tasks that are required

باب أَجْرِ الْمُفْطِرِ فِي السَّفَرِ إِذَا تَوَلَّى الْعَمَلَ ‏‏

Sahih Muslim 1119a

. Anas (ru reported that we were with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) on a journey. Some of us had been observing the fast and some of us had not been fasting. We got down at a place on a hot day. Most of us had the cloth for shelter. There were also those amongst us who sheltered (themselves against the rays of the) sun with the help of their hands. The observers of the fast fell down (on account of weakness). Those who had not observed it got up and pitched tents and watered the mounts. Thereupon the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, the breakers of the fast have taken away the reward today.

حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ہم ایک سفرمیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے تو ہم میں سے بعض روزے سے تھے اور بعض روزے سے نہیں تھے تو ایک سخت گرمی کے دن ہم ایک منزل پر اترے اور ہم میں سے سب سے زیادہ سایہ حاصل کرنے والا شخص وہ تھا جس کے پاس کمبل تھا اور ہم میں سے بعض وہ تھے جو سورج سے اپنے ہاتھ سے بچ رہے تھے، روزے رکھنے والے تو گرپڑے اور روزہ نہ رکھنے والے اٹھے۔ انھوں نے سب کے لیے خیمے لگائے اور سب کی سواریوں کو پانی پلایا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”آج تو اجر روزہ نہ رکھنے والے لے گئے۔“

Hazrat Anas (Raziallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke hum ek safar mein Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ke sath the to hum mein se baaz roze se the aur baaz roze se nahi the to ek sakht garmi ke din hum ek manzil par utare aur hum mein se sab se zyada saya hasil karne wala shakhs woh tha jis ke pas kambal tha aur hum mein se baaz woh the jo sooraj se apney hath se bach rahe the, roze rakhne wale to gir padey aur roza na rakhne wale uthe. Unhon ne sab ke liye khaimey lagaye aur sab ki sawarion ko pani pilaya to Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Aaj to ajr roza na rakhne wale le gaye."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ مُوَرِّقٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي السَّفَرِ فَمِنَّا الصَّائِمُ وَمِنَّا الْمُفْطِرُ - قَالَ - فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلاً فِي يَوْمٍ حَارٍّ أَكْثَرُنَا ظِلاًّ صَاحِبُ الْكِسَاءِ وَمِنَّا مَنْ يَتَّقِي الشَّمْسَ بِيَدِهِ - قَالَ - فَسَقَطَ الصُّوَّامُ وَقَامَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ فَضَرَبُوا الأَبْنِيَةَ وَسَقَوُا الرِّكَابَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ ذَهَبَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ الْيَوْمَ بِالأَجْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 1119b

Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was journeying (along with his Companions). Some of them had observed the fast whereas the others had broken it. Those who did not fast girded up their loins and worked, but the observers of the fast were too weak to work. Upon this the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, today the breakers of the fast have gone with the reward.

حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک سفرمیں تھے تو بعض نے روزہ رکھا اور بعض نےنہ رکھا تو بے روزہ خدمت کمر بستہ ہو گئےیا انھوں نے کمر بند باندھ لیے اور کام کرنے لگے اور روزے دار کام نہ کر سکے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”آج تو اجر بےروز لے گئے۔“

Hazrat Anas (Raziallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ek safar mein the to baaz ne roza rakha aur baaz ne na rakha to be-roza khidmat kamar basta ho gaye ya unhon ne kamar bandh bandh liye aur kaam karne lagey aur rozedar kaam na kar sakey. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Aaj to ajr be-rozey le gaye."

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ مُوَرِّقٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي سَفَرٍ فَصَامَ بَعْضٌ وَأَفْطَرَ بَعْضٌ فَتَحَزَّمَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ وَعَمِلُوا وَضَعُفَ الصُّوَّامُ عَنْ بَعْضِ الْعَمَلِ - قَالَ - فَقَالَ فِي ذَلِكَ ‏ "‏ ذَهَبَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ الْيَوْمَ بِالأَجْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 1120

Qaza'a narrated that he came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (ru and he was surrounded (by people), and when they dispersed, I said to him, I am not going to ask you about what these people were asking. I ask you about fasting on a journey. Upon this he said, we travelled with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) towards Makka and we had been observing fast. We halted at a place. There the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, you are nearing your enemy and breaking of fast would give you greater strength, and that was a concession (given to us). But some of us continued to observe the fast and some of us broke it. We then got down at another place and the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, you are going to encounter the enemy in the morning and breaking of the fast would give you strength, so break the fast. As it was a point of stress, so we broke the fast. But subsequently we saw ourselves observing the fast with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) on a journey.

قزعہ رحمۃ اللہ علیہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں حضرت ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا جبکہ ان کے پاس بہت سے لوگ جمع ہو چکے تھے جب لوگ ان کے پاس سے بکھرگئے تو میں نے کہا جو یہ لوگ پوچھ رہے تھے میں اس کے بارے میں آپ سے نہیں پوچھوں گا، میں نے ان سے سفر میں روزہ رکھنے کے بارے میں سوال کیا؟ تو انھوں نے بتایا ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ مکہ کے سفر کے لیےنکلے جبکہ ہم روزہ دار تھے تو ہم ایک منزل پر اترے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم اپنے دشمن کے قریب پہنچ چکے ہو اور روزہ نہ رکھنا یہ تمھارے لیے زیادہ طاقت بخش ہے۔“ یہ روزہ نہ رکھنے کی رخصت تھی تو ہم میں سے بعض نے روزہ رکھا اور بعض نے نہ رکھاپھر ہم ایک دوسری منزل پر اترے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم صبح دشمن تک پہنچ جاؤگے اور روزہ نہ رکھنا یہ تمھارے لیے زیادہ طاقت کا باعث ہو گا لہٰذا روزہ نہ رکھو،“ اور یہ حکم قطعی تھا اس لیے ہم نے روزہ نہ رکھا پھر انھوں نے بتایا میں نے اس کے بعد سفر میں ساتھیوں کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ روزہ رکھتے دیکھا۔

Qaza'ah (Rahmatullah Alaih) bayan karte hain ke main Hazrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri (Raziallahu Anhu) ki khidmat mein hazir hua jabke un ke pas bahut se log jama ho chuke the jab log unke pas se bikhar gaye to main ne kaha jo yeh log pooch rahe the main uske bare mein aap se nahi poochunga, main ne un se safar mein roza rakhne ke bare mein sawal kiya? To unhon ne bataya hum Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ke sath Makkah ke safar ke liye nikle jabke hum rozedar the to hum ek manzil par utare Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Tum apney dushman ke qareeb pahnuch chuke ho aur roza na rakhna yeh tumhare liye zyada taqat bakhsh hai." Yeh roza na rakhne ki rukhast thi to hum mein se baaz ne roza rakha aur baaz ne na rakha phir hum ek doosri manzil par utare to aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Tum subah dushman tak pahnuch jaoge aur roza na rakhna yeh tumhare liye zyada taqat ka ba'is hoga lihaza roza na rakho," aur yeh hukum qata'i tha is liye hum ne roza na rakha phir unhon ne bataya main ne uske baad safar mein sathiyon ko Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ke sath roza rakhte dekha.

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَزَعَةُ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ - رضى الله عنه - وَهُوَ مَكْثُورٌ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا تَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ عَنْهُ قُلْتُ إِنِّي لاَ أَسْأَلُكَ عَمَّا يَسْأَلُكَ هَؤُلاَءِ عَنْهُ ‏.‏ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فِي السَّفَرِ فَقَالَ سَافَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى مَكَّةَ وَنَحْنُ صِيَامٌ قَالَ فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلاً فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ دَنَوْتُمْ مِنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَالْفِطْرُ أَقْوَى لَكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَكَانَتْ رُخْصَةً فَمِنَّا مَنْ صَامَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَفْطَرَ ثُمَّ نَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلاً آخَرَ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّكُمْ مُصَبِّحُو عَدُوِّكُمْ وَالْفِطْرُ أَقْوَى لَكُمْ فَأَفْطِرُوا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَكَانَتْ عَزْمَةً فَأَفْطَرْنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا نَصُومُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فِي السَّفَرِ ‏.‏
