Chapter: The obligation to fast Ramadan when the crescent is sighted, and to break the fast when the crescent is sighted, and that if it is cloudy at the beginning or end of the month, then the month should be completed as thirty days.

بَاب وُجُوبِ صَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَالْفِطْرِ لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَأَنَّهُ إِذَا غُمَّ فِي أَوَّلِهِ أَوْ آخِرِهِ أُكْمِلَتْ عِدَّةُ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْمًا

Sahih Muslim 1081c
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘observe fast on sighting the new moon and break fasting on sighting it. But in view of clouds, if the actual position of the month is concealed from you, you should then count thirty (days).
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے چاند کا تذکرہ کیا اورفرمایا: ”جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھنا چھوڑ دو۔ اگر مطلع ابر آلود اور اگر چاند تمھیں دکھائی نہ دے تو گنتی تیس کرو۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne chand ka tazkirah kiya aur farmaya: "Jab tum isay dekh lo toh roza rakho aur jab tum isay dekh lo toh roza rakhna chorro do. Agar matla abar-alood aur agar chand tumhein dikhayi na day toh ginti tees karo."
وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، - رضى الله عنه - يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمُ الشَّهْرُ فَعُدُّوا ثَلاَثِينَ " .
