بَاب النَّهْيِ عَنْ صَوْمِ الدَّهْرِ لِمَنْ تَضَرَّرَ بِهِ أَوْ فَوَّتَ بِهِ حَقًّا أَوْ لَمْ يُفْطِرْ الْعِيدَيْنِ وَالتَّشْرِيقَ وَبَيَانِ تَفْضِيلِ صَوْمِ يَوْمٍ وَإِفْطَارِ يَوْمٍ

Sahih Muslim 1159h
Abdullah bin Amr bin al-'As (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to me, Abdullah bin Amr bin al-'As (رضي الله تعالى عنه), you fast continuously and stand in prayer for the whole of night. If you do like that, your eyes would be highly strained and would sink and lose sight. There is no (reward for) fasting (for him) who fasts perpetually. Fasting for three days during the month is like fasting, the whole of the month. I said, I am capable of doing more than this, whereupon he said, observe the fast of Dawood (عليه السَلم). He used to fast one day and break (the other) day. And he did not turn back in the encounter (in the battlefield).
عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اے عبد اللہ بن عمرو! تم روزانہ روزہ رکھتے ہو اور رات بھر قیام کرتے ہو اور تم جب ایسا کرتے رہو گے تو تمھاری آنکھیں اندر دھنس جائیں گی اور کمزور ہو جائیں گی جس نے ہر دن روزہ رکھا اس نے روزہ نہیں رکھا ہر ماہ تین روزہ رکھنا پورے ماہ کے روزے رکھنا ہے“ میں نے عرض کیا: میں اس سے زیادہ کی طاقت رکھتا ہوں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تو داؤدی روزے رکھو، وہ ایک دن روزہ رکھتے تھے اور ایک دن چھوڑتے تھے اور مقابلہ کے وقت بھاگتے نہیں تھے۔“
Abdullah bin Amr (Radiallahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke mujhe Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Aye Abdullah bin Amr! Tum rozana roza rakhte ho aur raat bhar qiyam karte ho aur tum jab aisa karte rahoge to tumhari aankhen andar dhans jayengi aur kamzor ho jayengi jisne har din roza rakha usne roza nahin rakha har mahine teen roza rakhna pure mahine ke rozay rakhna hai." Maine arz kiya: "Main is se zyada ki taqat rakhta hoon." Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "To Dawoodi rozay rakho, woh ek din roza rakhte the aur ek din chhodte the aur muqable ke waqt bhagte nahin the."
وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حَبِيبٍ، سَمِعَ أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ، سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو، - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو إِنَّكَ لَتَصُومُ الدَّهْرَ وَتَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَإِنَّكَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ هَجَمَتْ لَهُ الْعَيْنُ وَنَهِكَتْ لاَ صَامَ مَنْ صَامَ الأَبَدَ صَوْمُ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ صَوْمُ الشَّهْرِ كُلِّهِ " . قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ . قَالَ " فَصُمْ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا وَلاَ يَفِرُّ إِذَا لاَقَى " .
