Chapter: It is permissible for the pilgrim performing Umrah to shorten his hair and he does not have to shave it. It is recommended for him to shave his hair or shorten it at Al-Marwah

باب التَّقْصِيرِ فِي الْعُمْرَةِ
Sahih Muslim 1246a
Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Mu'awiya (رضي الله تعالى عنه) had said to them, do you know that I clipped some hair from the head of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) at al-Marwa with the help of a clipper? I said, I do not know it except as it is verdict against you.’
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، مجھے معاویہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا، کیا تمہیں معلوم ہے کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سر کے بال مروہ کے پاس، تیر کی دھار یا قینچی سے کاٹے تھے؟ تو میں نے انہیں جواب دیا، میرے نزدیک، میرے علم میں تمہارا یہ فعل، تمہارے خلاف دلیل ہے۔
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Radiallahu Anhuma) bayan karte hain, mujhe Muawiya (Radiallahu Anhu) ne kaha, kya tumhein maloom hai ki mein ne Rasool Allah (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke sar ke baal Marwah ke paas, teer ki dhaar ya qainchi se kaate the? To mein ne unhein jawab diya, mere nazdeek, mere ilm mein tumhara ye fe'l, tumhare khilaf daleel hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حُجَيْرٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لِي مُعَاوِيَةُ أَعَلِمْتَ أَنِّي قَصَّرْتُ مِنْ رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عِنْدَ الْمَرْوَةِ بِمِشْقَصٍ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لاَ أَعْلَمُ هَذَا إِلاَّ حُجَّةً عَلَيْكَ .
