Chapter: The prohibition of swearing by something other than Allah

باب النَّهْىِ عَنِ الْحَلِفِ بِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى
Sahih Muslim 1646d
Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) found, Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) amongst the riders and he was taking oath by his father. Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) called them (saying); Our Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, has forbidden you that you take oath by your father. He who wants to take an oath, he must take it by Allah or keep quiet.
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عمر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ کو ایک قافلہ میں پایا، اور وہ اپنے باپ کی قسم اٹھا رہے تھے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں پکار کر فرمایا: ”خبردار! اللہ تعالیٰ تمہیں اس بات سے روکتے ہیں کہ تم اپنے باپوں کی قسم اٹھاؤ، جس نے قسم اٹھانا ہو، وہ اللہ کی قسم اٹھائے یا چپ رہے۔“
Hazrat Abdullah Bin Umar (Razi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) se riwayat hai ki Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne Umar (Razi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ko ek qafile mein paya, aur woh apne baap ki qasam utha rahe the, to Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne unhein pukar kar farmaya: “Khabardar! Allah Ta'ala tumhein is baat se rokte hain ki tum apne baapon ki qasam uthao, jis ne qasam uthana ho, woh Allah ki qasam uthaye ya chup rahe.”
وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ أَدْرَكَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فِي رَكْبٍ وَعُمَرُ يَحْلِفُ بِأَبِيهِ فَنَادَاهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَلاَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ فَمَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللَّهِ أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ ".
