Chapter: The prohibition of seeking or desiring a position of authority

باب النَّهْىِ عَنْ طَلَبِ الإِمَارَةِ، وَالْحِرْصِ، عَلَيْهَا
Sahih Muslim 1652c
Abdur Rahman bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said to me, Abdur Rahman, do not ask for a position of authority, for if you are granted this position as a result of your asking for it, you will be left alone (without divine support), and it you are granted it without making any request for it, you will be helped (by Allah in the discharge of your duties).
حضرت عبدالرحمٰن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے فرمایا: ”اے عبدالرحمٰن! امارت کا سوال نہ کرنا، کیونکہ اگر وہ تمہیں طلب کرنے کی بنا پر دی گئی، تو تمہیں اس کے سپرد کر دیا جائے گا اور تمہیں وہ بلا طلب ملی، تمہاری اعانت کی جائے گی۔“
Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mujhe farmaya: "Aye Abdul Rahman! Imarat ka sawal na karna, kyunki agar woh tumhe talab karne ki bina par di gayi, to tumhe uske supurd kar diya jayega aur tumhe woh bila talab mili, tumhari a'anat ki jayegi."
حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، بْنُ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ لاَ تَسْأَلِ الإِمَارَةَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ أُعْطِيتَهَا عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ أُكِلْتَ إِلَيْهَا وَإِنْ أُعْطِيتَهَا عَنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ أُعِنْتَ عَلَيْهَا " .
