Chapter: The Virtues Of 'Ali Bin Abi Talib (RA)

باب مِنْ فَضَائِلِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رضى الله عنه
Sahih Muslim 2408a
Yazid bin Hayyan reported, I went along with Husain bin Sabra and Umar bin Muslim to Zaid bin Arqam (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and, as we sat by his side, Husain said to him, Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) you have been able to acquire a great virtue that you saw Allah's Apostle (صلى ْهللا عليه و ْآله وسلم) listened to his talk, fought by his side in (different) battles, offered prayer behind him, and Zaid (ْرضي الله تعالى عنه), you have in fact earned a great virtue. Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه), narrate to us what you heard from Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He said, I have grown old and have almost spent my age and I have forgotten some of the things which I remembered in connection with Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), so accept whatever I narrate to you, and which I do not narrate do not compel me to do that. He then said, one day Allah's Apostle (صلى ْهللا عليه ْو آله وسلم) stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Makka and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him and delivered the sermon and exhorted (us) and said, now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah's call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things, the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said, the second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family. Husain said to Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) who are the members of his household? Aren't his wives the members of his family? Thereupon he said, his wives are the members of his family (but here) the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. And he said, who are they? Thereupon he said, Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and the offspring of Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه), Aqil (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and the offspring of Aqil (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and the offspring of Ja'far (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and the offspring of Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه). Husain said, these are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, yes.
حضرت یزید بن حیان بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں،حصین بن سبرہ اور عمر بن مسلم،حضرت زید بن ارقم رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے پاس گئے۔جب ہم ان کے قریب بیٹھ گئے تو حصین نے ان سے کہا:زید!آ پ کو خیر کثیرحاصل ہوئی،آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زیارت کی،ان کی بات سنی،ان کے ساتھ مل کر جہاد کیا اور ان کی اقتداء میں نمازیں پڑھیں۔زید!آپ کوخیر کثیرحاصل ہوئی۔زید!ہمیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی ہوئی(کوئی) حدیث سنایئے۔(حضرت زید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے)کہا:بھتیجے!میری عمر زیادہ ہوگی،زمانہ بیت گیا،رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی جو احادیث یاد تھیں ان میں سے کچھ بھول چکا ہوں،اب جو میں بیان کروں اسے قبول کرو۔اور جو(بیان) نہ کرسکوں تو اس کا مجھےمکلف نہ ٹھہراؤ۔پھر کہا: کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک دن مکہ اور مدینہ کے درمیان واقع مقام ”خم“کے پانی کے مقام پر خطبہ سنانے کو کھڑے ہوئے۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اللہ کی حمد کی اور اس کی تعریف کو بیان کیا اور وعظ و نصیحت کی۔ پھر فرمایا کہ اس کے بعد اے لوگو! میں آدمی ہوں، قریب ہے کہ میرے رب کا بھیجا ہوا (موت کا فرشتہ) پیغام اجل لائے اور میں قبول کر لوں۔ میں تم میں دو بڑی چیزیں چھوڑے جاتا ہوں۔ پہلے تو اللہ کی کتاب ہے اور اس میں ہدایت ہے اور نور ہے۔ تو اللہ کی کتاب کو تھامے رہو اور اس کو مضبوط پکڑے رہو۔ غرض کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اللہ کی کتاب کی طرف رغبت دلائی۔ پھر فرمایا کہ دوسری چیز میرے اہل بیت ہیں۔ میں تمہیں اپنے اہل بیت کے بارے میں اللہ تعالیٰ یاد دلاتا ہوں، تین بار فرمایا۔ اور حصین نے کہا کہ اے زید! آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اہل بیت کون سے ہیں، کیا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ازواج مطہرات اہل بیت نہیں ہیں؟ سیدنا زید ؓ نے کہا کہ ازواج مطہرات بھی اہل بیت میں داخل ہیں لیکن اہل بیت وہ ہیں جن پر زکوٰۃ حرام ہے۔ حصین نے کہا کہ وہ کون لوگ ہیں؟ سیدنا زید ؓ نے کہا کہ وہ علی، عقیل، جعفر اور عباس کی اولاد ہیں۔ حصین نے کہا کہ ان سب پر صدقہ حرام ہے؟ سیدنا زید ؓ نے کہا کہ ہاں۔
Hazrat Yazeed bin Hayyan bayan karte hain ke main, Husain bin Sabrah aur Umar bin Muslim, Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (Razi Allahu Anhu) ke paas gaye. Jab hum un ke qareeb baith gaye to Husain ne un se kaha: Zaid! Aap ko khair-e-kaseer hasil hui, Aap ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ki ziyarat ki, un ki baat suni, un ke saath mil kar jihad kiya aur un ki iqteda mein namazein parhin. Zaid! Aap ko khair-e-kaseer hasil hui. Zaid! Hamein Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se suni hui (koi) Hadees sunaiye. (Hazrat Zaid (Razi Allahu Anhu)) ne kaha: Bhatije! Meri umar zyada ho gayi, zamana beet gaya, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ki jo Ahadees yaad thin un mein se kuch bhool chuka hun, ab jo main bayan karun use qabool karo. Aur jo (bayan) na kar sakun to us ka mujhe mukallaf na thehrao. Phir kaha: Ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ek din Makkah aur Madinah ke darmiyan waqe maqam "Khum" ke pani ke maqam par khutbah sunane ko khare hue. Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne Allah ki hamd ki aur us ki tareef ko bayan kiya aur wa'az o naseehat ki. Phir farmaya ke is ke baad Aye logo! Main aadmi hun, qareeb hai ke mere Rab ka bheja hua (maut ka farishta) paigham-e-ajal laye aur main qabool kar loon. Main tum mein do bari cheezein chore jata hun. Pehle to Allah ki kitaab hai aur is mein hidayat hai aur noor hai. To Allah ki kitaab ko thame raho aur us ko mazboot pakre raho. Gharz ke Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne Allah ki kitaab ki taraf raghbat dilayi. Phir farmaya ke dusri cheez mere Ahl-e-Bait hain. Main tumhein apne Ahl-e-Bait ke bare mein Allah Ta'ala yaad dilata hun, teen baar farmaya. Aur Husain ne kaha ke Aye Zaid! Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ke Ahl-e-Bait kaun se hain, kya Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ki Azwaj-e-Mutahharaat Ahl-e-Bait nahin hain? Sayyiduna Zaid (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha ke Azwaj-e-Mutahharaat bhi Ahl-e-Bait mein dakhil hain lekin Ahl-e-Bait woh hain jin par Zakat haram hai. Husain ne kaha ke woh kaun log hain? Sayyiduna Zaid (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha ke woh Ali, Aqeel, Ja'far aur Abbas ki aulaad hain. Husain ne kaha ke un sab par sadqa haram hai? Sayyiduna Zaid (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha ke haan.
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَشُجَاعُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، جَمِيعًا عَنِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَيَّانَ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ، قَالَ انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَحُصَيْنُ، بْنُ سَبْرَةَ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ لَهُ حُصَيْنٌ لَقَدْ لَقِيتَ يَا زَيْدُ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَسَمِعْتَ حَدِيثَهُ وَغَزَوْتَ مَعَهُ وَصَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَهُ لَقَدْ لَقِيتَ يَا زَيْدُ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا حَدِّثْنَا يَا زَيْدُ مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم - قَالَ - يَا ابْنَ أَخِي وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي وَقَدُمَ عَهْدِي وَنَسِيتُ بَعْضَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَعِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَمَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ فَاقْبَلُوا وَمَا لاَ فَلاَ تُكَلِّفُونِيهِ . ثُمَّ قَالَ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمًا فِينَا خَطِيبًا بِمَاءٍ يُدْعَى خُمًّا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَوَعَظَ وَذَكَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ " أَمَّا بَعْدُ أَلاَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ رَسُولُ رَبِّي فَأُجِيبَ وَأَنَا تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ ثَقَلَيْنِ أَوَّلُهُمَا كِتَابُ اللَّهِ فِيهِ الْهُدَى وَالنُّورُ فَخُذُوا بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَاسْتَمْسِكُوا بِهِ " . فَحَثَّ عَلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَرَغَّبَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ " وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِي أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللَّهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللَّهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللَّهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي " . فَقَالَ لَهُ حُصَيْنٌ وَمَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ يَا زَيْدُ أَلَيْسَ نِسَاؤُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ قَالَ نِسَاؤُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَلَكِنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ مَنْ حُرِمَ الصَّدَقَةَ بَعْدَهُ . قَالَ وَمَنْ هُمْ قَالَ هُمْ آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ عَبَّاسٍ . قَالَ كُلُّ هَؤُلاَءِ حُرِمَ الصَّدَقَةَ قَالَ نَعَمْ .
