Sahih Muslim 37b
It is narrated on the authority of Qatada (رضي الله تعالى عنه). We were sitting with 'Imran bin Husain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) in a company and Bushair ibn Ka'b (رضي الله تعالى عنه) was also among us. 'Imran (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated to us that on a certain occasion the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : Modesty is a virtue through and through, or said : Modesty is a goodness complete. Upon this Bushair ibn Ka'b (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said : Verily we find in certain books or books (of wisdom) that it is God-inspired peace of mind or sobriety for the sake of Allah and there is also a weakness in it. Imran ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) was so much enraged that his eyes became red and he said : I am narrating to you the Hadith of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and you are contradicting it. He (the narrator) said : Imran (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported the Hadith, He (the narrator) said : Bushair (رضي الله تعالى عنه) repeated, (the same thing). Imran (رضي الله تعالى عنه) was enraged. He (the narrator) said : We asserted, indeed, Bushair (رضي الله تعالى عنه) is one among us, Abu Nujaid! There is nothing wrong, with him.
حضرت ابو قتادہؒ نے بتایا کہ ہم اپنے گروہ کے ساتھ حضرت عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس حاضر تھے اور ہم میں بشیر بن کعب بھی موجود تھے اس دن عمران (رضی اللہ عنہ) نے ہمیں ایک حدیث سنائی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”حیا مکمل خیر ہے یا پوری خیر ہے۔“ تو بشیر بن کعب نے کہا: ہم نے بعض کتابوں یا حکمت میں پایا ہے کہ بعض دفعہ وہ وقار اور اطمینان ہوتا ہے، اور بعض دفعہ وہ کمزوری ہوتا ہے، تو حضرت عمران (رضی اللہ عنہ) غصے میں آگئے یہاں تک کہ ان کی آنکھیں سُرخ ہو گئیں، اور فرمانے لگے: میں دیکھ رہا ہوں کہ میں تمھیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی حدیث سناتا ہوں اور تم اس کے خلاف یا مقابلہ میں باتیں کرتے ہو، ابو قتادہؒ کہتے ہیں کہ عمران نے دوبارہ حدیث سنائی اور بشیر نے بھی اپنی بات کو دہرایا، اس پر عمران غصہ میں آگئے (اور بشیر کو سزا دینے کا ارادہ کیا) تو ہم مسلسل کہنے لگے اے ابا نُجید! (عمران رضی اللہ عنہ کی کنیت ہے) یہ ہم میں (مہمان) ہے، اس میں کوئی عیب یا نقص نہیں (منافق یا بے دین نہیں) ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Qatada (Rahmatullahi Alaih) ne bataya ke hum apne giroh ke sath Hazrat Imran bin Husain (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ke pas hazir thay aur hum mein Bashir bin Ka'b bhi maujood thay is din Imran (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ne humein ek hadith sunayi ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Haya mukammal khair hai ya poori khair hai." To Bashir bin Ka'b ne kaha: hum ne ba'az kitabon ya hikmat mein paya hai ke ba'az dafa woh waqar aur itminan hota hai, aur ba'az dafa woh kamzori hota hai, to Hazrat Imran (Radhi Allahu Anhu) gusse mein aa gaye yahan tak ke un ki aankhein surkh ho gayien, aur farmane lage: main dekh raha hoon ke main tumhein Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ki hadith sunata hoon aur tum is ke khilaf ya muqabala mein baatein karte ho, Abu Qatada (Rahmatullahi Alaih) kehte hain ke Imran ne dobara hadith sunayi aur Bashir ne bhi apni baat ko dohraya, is par Imran gusse mein aa gaye (aur Bashir ko saza dene ka irada kiya) to hum musalsal kehne lage ae Aba Nujeed! (Imran (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ki kuniyat hai) yeh hum mein (mehman) hai, is mein koi aib ya naqs nahi (munafiq ya be-deen nahi) hai.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ سُوَيْدٍ - أَنَّ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، حَدَّثَ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنَّا وَفِينَا بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ فَحَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ، يَوْمَئِذٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " الْحَيَاءُ خَيْرٌ كُلُّهُ " . قَالَ أَوْ قَالَ " الْحَيَاءُ كُلُّهُ خَيْرٌ " . فَقَالَ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ إِنَّا لَنَجِدُ فِي بَعْضِ الْكُتُبِ أَوِ الْحِكْمَةِ أَنَّ مِنْهُ سَكِينَةً وَوَقَارًا لِلَّهِ وَمِنْهُ ضَعْفٌ . قَالَ فَغَضِبَ عِمْرَانُ حَتَّى احْمَرَّتَا عَيْنَاهُ وَقَالَ أَلاَ أُرَانِي أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَتُعَارِضُ فِيهِ . قَالَ فَأَعَادَ عِمْرَانُ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَأَعَادَ بُشَيْرٌ فَغَضِبَ عِمْرَانُ قَالَ فَمَا زِلْنَا نَقُولُ فِيهِ إِنَّهُ مِنَّا يَا أَبَا نُجَيْدٍ إِنَّهُ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ .
