Mention of Allah's prophet Dawud (David) (peace be upon him), the possessor of the Psalms
ذكر الله نبيه حضرة داود عليه السلام صاحب الزبور

Sa'di (RA) narrated that Allah Almighty says: "And We strengthened his kingdom." (Translation: Kanzul Iman, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (RA)) Every day, four thousand guards used to protect him. Sa'di says: Dawood (AS) had divided his days. One day he used to judge among the people, one day he used to seclude himself for the worship of Allah, and one day he used to spend with his family. He had 99 wives. He used to read in the Book the virtues and deeds of Ibrahim (AS), Ishaq (AS), and then Yaqub (AS). When they found all this in the study of the Books, they said: "O my Lord, all the good has been taken by my forefathers before me. So grant me the same that You granted them and deal with me as You dealt with them." So Allah Almighty revealed to them: "You have not yet been afflicted with the trials that your forefathers were put through. Ibrahim (AS) was tested by being asked to sacrifice his son, and Ishaq (AS) was tested by losing his eyesight. Yaqub (AS) was put through the hardship of separation from his son, and you have not been put through any of these trials." They said, "O my Lord! Then test me in the same way, but grant me what You granted them." So Allah Almighty revealed to them: "Okay, you will be tested, be prepared." After that, some time passed, as much as Allah willed. Then Satan, in the form of a golden dove, fell at his feet while he was praying. When he reached out to pick it up, it flew away through the skylight. He looked to see where it was going, his eyes following it, when suddenly his eyes fell upon a woman who was bathing on the roof. He saw that the woman was very beautiful, her eyes fell upon him, she saw him and then let down her hair. Then she disappeared from him. Because of this, his desire for her increased even more. He inquired about her and found out that she was married and her husband worked in some (military) weapons factory. He sent a message to the owner of the factory and ordered him to send him to such and such enemy territory. When he was sent, there was victory. He continued to send him on Jihad until the third time he was martyred. Then he married his wife. When he slept with her, not much time had passed when Allah Almighty sent two angels in the form of humans to him. They asked permission to come to him, but it was his day of worship, so the guards stopped them from entering. So they both jumped over the wall and entered the mosque of Dawood (AS). He was busy in prayer, so he did not know anything. Suddenly he looked up and saw both of them sitting in front of him. Dawood (AS) was a little scared of them, so they said: "Don't be afraid. We are two parties, one of us has wronged the other, so judge us truthfully and do not be unjust." After this, he narrated a long hadith regarding the confession of his mistake.
" حضرت سدی رضی اللہ عنہ ، اللہ تعالیٰ کے ارشاد :’’ وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْکَہ ’’ اور ہم نے اس کی سلطنت کو مضبوط کیا ۔‘‘ ( ترجمہ کنزالایمان ، امام احمد رضا رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) ہر روز چار چار ہزار محافظ آپ کی چواکیداری کرتے تھے ۔ سدی کہتے ہیں : حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام نے ایام کی تقسیم کر رکھی تھی ۔ ایک دن آپ لوگوں میں فیصلے کیا کرتے تھے ، ایک دن آپ عبادت الٰہی کے لئے خلوت نشین رہتے اور ایک دن اپنے گھر والوں کے ساتھ گزارتے تھے ۔ آپ کی 99 بیویاں تھیں ۔ آپ کتاب میں حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام ، حضرت اسحاق علیہ السلام اور پھر حضرت یعقوب علیہ السلام کے فضائل و کمالات پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔ جب انہوں نے کتب کے مطالعہ میں یہ سب کچھ پا لیا تو عرض کی : اے میرے رب تمام بھلائی تو مجھ سے پہلے میرے آباؤاجداد لے گئے ہیں ۔ تو مجھے بھی وہی کچھ عطا کر جو ان کو عطا کیا تھا اور میرے ساتھ بھی وہی معاملہ فرما جو ان کے ساتھ کیا تھا ۔ تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی طرف وحی فرمائی کہ تیرے آباؤاجداد پر جو امتحانات ڈالے گئے تھے تم کو ابھی تک ان سے دوچار نہیں کیا گیا ۔ ابراہیم علیہ السلام سے ان کے لخت جگر کو ذبح کروانے کا امتحان لیا گیا اور حضرت اسحاق علیہ السلام کی بینائی ختم کر کے آزمایا گیا ۔ یعقوب علیہ السلام کو ان کے بیٹے کے فراق کی مصیبت میں دالا گیا اور تمہیں ان میں سے کسی آزمائش میں بھی نہیں ڈالا گیا ۔ انہوں نے عرض کی : اے میرے رب ! مجھے بھی ان جیسی آزمائش میں بے شک ڈال دے لیکن مجھے وہ عطا کر دے جو کچھ تو نے ان کو عطا کیا تھا ۔ تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی طرف وحی فرمائی کہ ٹھیک ہے تمہیں آزمایا جائے گا تم تیار رہو ۔ اس کے بعد کچھ وقت گزرا جتنا اللہ تعالیٰ نے چاہا ۔ پھر شیطان سونے کی کبوتری بن کر ان کے قدموں میں آ کر گرا ، اس وقت آپ نماز پڑھ رہے تھے ۔ آپ نے اس کو اٹھانے لئے اپنا ہاتھ بڑھایا تو وہ روشندان میں سے اڑ گئی ۔ آپ دیکھنے لگے کہ کہاں جاتی ہے آپ کی نگاہیں اس کے تعاقب میں تھیں کہ اچانک آپ کی نظر ایک عورت پر پڑی جو کہ چھت پر نہا رہی تھی آپ نے دیکھا کہ وہ عورت بہت زیادہ حسین و جمیل ہے ، اس کی نظر آپ پر پڑ گئی اس نے آپ کو دیکھا اور پھر اپنے بال ڈھلکا لیے ۔ پھر وہ آپ سے اوجھل ہو گئی ۔ اس وجہ سے آپ کے دل میں اس کی رغبت اور بھی بڑھ گئی ۔ آپ نے اس کے بارے میں معلومات کروائیں تو پتہ چلا کہ وہ شادی شدہ ہے اور اس کا شوہر کسی ( فوجی ) اسلحہ کے کارخانے میں کام کرتا ہے ، آپ نے کارخانے کے مالک کو پیغام بھیجا اور اس کو حکم دیا کہ اس کو فلاں فلاں دشمن کے علاقے میں بھیج دو ۔ اس کو بھیج دیا گیا تو وہاں فتح ہو گئی ۔ آپ مسلسل اس کو جہاد میں بھیجتے رہے حتیٰ کہ تیسری مرتبہ وہ شہید ہو گیا ۔ تو آپ نے اس کی بیوی سے نکاح کر لیا ۔ جب آپ اس سے ہمبستر ہوئے تو ابھی زیادہ وقت نہیں گزرا تھا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے انسانوں کی شکل میں دو فرشتے ان کے پاس بھیجے ۔ انہوں نے آپ کے پاس آنے کی اجازت مانگی تو وہ آپ کی عبادت کا دن تھا ، اس لئے محافظوں نے ان کو اندر آنے سے منع کر دیا تو وہ دونوں دیوار کود کر داؤد علیہ السلام کی مسجد میں آ گئے ۔ آپ نماز میں مشغول تھے ، اس لئے آپ کو کچھ معلوم نہ ہوا ، آپ نے اچانک دیکھا تو وہ دونوں آپ کے سامنے بیٹھے ہوئے تھے ۔ حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام ان سے کچھ گھبرا گئے تو انہوں نے کہا : آپ ڈرئیے مت ۔ ہم دو فریق ہیں ، ہم میں سے ایک نے دوسرے کے ساتھ زیادتی کی ہے تو آپ ہمیں سچا فیصلہ فرما دیجئے اور خلاف حق نہ کیجئے ۔ اس کے بعد آپ کی خطاء کے اقرار کے سلسلہ میں طویل حدیث نقل فرمائی ۔"
Hazrat Sidi razi Allah anhu, Allah taala ke irshad: ''Washshadadna mulkaha''. ''Aur humne is ki saltanat ko mazboot kiya.'' (Tarjuma Kanzul Iman, Imam Ahmad Raza rehmatullah alaih) Har roz chaar chaar hazar muhafiz aap ki chawkidari karte thay. Sidi kahte hain: Hazrat Dawood alaihissalam ne ayyam ki taqseem kar rakhi thi. Ek din aap logon mein faisle karte thay, ek din aap ibadat ilahi ke liye khalwat nasheen rehte aur ek din apne ghar walon ke sath guzarte thay. Aap ki 99 biwiyan thin. Aap kitab mein Hazrat Ibrahim alaihissalam, Hazrat Ishaq alaihissalam aur phir Hazrat Yaqub alaihissalam ke fazail o kamalat parha karte thay. Jab unhon ne kutub ke mutalea mein ye sab kuchh pa liya to arz ki: Aye mere rab tamam bhalayi to mujh se pehle mere aba o ajdad le gaye hain. To mujhe bhi wohi kuchh ata kar jo un ko ata kiya tha aur mere sath bhi wohi muamala farma jo un ke sath kiya tha. To Allah taala ne un ki taraf wahi farmaai ki tere aba o ajdad par jo imtehanat dale gaye thay tum ko abhi tak un se do chaar nahin kiya gaya. Ibrahim alaihissalam se un ke laqt-e-jigar ko zibah karwane ka imtehan liya gaya aur Hazrat Ishaq alaihissalam ki beenayi khatam kar ke aazmaya gaya. Yaqub alaihissalam ko un ke bete ke firaq ki musibat mein dala gaya aur tumhen un mein se kisi aazmaish mein bhi nahin dala gaya. Unhon ne arz ki: Aye mere rab! Mujhe bhi un jaisi aazmaish mein be shak dal de lekin mujhe wo ata kar de jo kuchh tu ne un ko ata kiya tha. To Allah taala ne un ki taraf wahi farmaai ki theek hai tumhen aazmaya jayega tum taiyar raho. Is ke baad kuchh waqt guzra jitna Allah taala ne chaha. Phir shetan sone ki kabutari ban kar un ke qadmon mein aa kar gira, is waqt aap namaz parh rahe thay. Aap ne is ko uthane ke liye apna hath barhaya to wo roshandan mein se ur gayi. Aap dekhne lage ki kahan jati hai aap ki nigahein is ke ta'aqub mein thin ki achanak aap ki nazar ek aurat par pari jo ki chhat par naha rahi thi. Aap ne dekha ki wo aurat bahut zyada husn o jameel hai, is ki nazar aap par pari us ne aap ko dekha aur phir apne baal dhalka liye. Phir wo aap se ojhal ho gayi. Is wajah se aap ke dil mein is ki ragbat aur bhi barh gayi. Aap ne is ke bare mein maloomat karwayin to pata chala ki wo shadi shuda hai aur us ka shohar kisi (fauji) aslaha ke karkhane mein kaam karta hai, aap ne karkhane ke malik ko paigham bheja aur us ko hukm diya ki is ko falan falan dushman ke ilaqe mein bhej do. Is ko bhej diya gaya to wahan fatah ho gayi. Aap musalsal is ko jihad mein bhejte rahe hatta ki teesri martaba wo shaheed ho gaya. To aap ne is ki biwi se nikah kar liya. Jab aap is se hambistar huye to abhi zyada waqt nahin guzra tha ki Allah taala ne insano ki shakal mein do farishte un ke pass bheje. Unhon ne aap ke pass aane ki ijazat mangi to wo aap ki ibadat ka din tha, is liye muhafizon ne un ko andar aane se mana kar diya to wo dono deewar kood kar Dawood alaihissalam ki masjid mein aa gaye. Aap namaz mein mashgool thay, is liye aap ko kuchh maloom na hua, aap ne achanak dekha to wo dono aap ke samne baithe huye thay. Hazrat Dawood alaihissalam un se kuchh ghabra gaye to unhon ne kaha: Aap dariye mat. Hum do fareeq hain, hum mein se ek ne dusre ke sath zyadati ki hai to aap humein sachcha faisla farma dijiye aur khilaf haq na kijiye. Is ke baad aap ki khata ke iqrar ke silsila mein taweel hadees naql farmaai.
أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّفَّارُ السُّلَمِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ طَلْحَةَ الْقَنَّادُ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ {وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ} [ص: 20] قَالَ: «كَانَ يَحْرُسُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ أَرْبَعَةُ أَلْفِ أَرْبَعَةُ أَلْفٍ» قَالَ السُّدِّيُّ: "" وَكَانَ دَاوُدُ قَدْ قَسَمَ الدَّهْرَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ؛ يَوْمًا يَقْضِي فِيهِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، وَيَوْمًا يَخْلُو فِيهِ لِعِبَادَتِهِ، وَيَوْمًا يَخْلُو فِيهِ لِنِسَائِهِ، وَكَانَ لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ امْرَأَةً وَكَانَ فِيمَا يَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْكُتُبِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَجِدُ فَضْلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ ذَلِكَ فِيمَا يَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْكُتُبِ قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ أَرَى الْخَيْرَ كُلَّهُ قَدْ ذَهَبَ بِهِ آبَائِيَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قَبْلِي فَاعْطِنِي مِثْلَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ، وَافْعَلْ بِي مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلْتَ بِهِمْ، قَالَ: فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّ آبَاءَكَ ابْتُلُوا بِبَلَايَا لَمْ تُبْتَلَ بِهَا أَنْتَ ابْتُلِيَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بِذَبْحِ ابْنِهِ، وَابْتُلِيَ إِسْحَاقُ بِذَهَابِ بَصَرِهِ، وَابْتُلِيَ يَعْقُوبُ بِحُزْنِهِ عَلَى يُوسُفَ، وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تُبْتَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِشَيْءٍ، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ ابْتَلِنِي بِمِثْلِ مَا ابْتَلَيْتَهُمْ بِهِ وَأَعْطِنِي مِثْلَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ إِنَّكَ مُبْتَلًى فَاحْتَرِسْ قَالَ: فَمَكَثَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَمْكُثَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ قَدْ تَمَثَّلَ فِي صُورَةِ حَمَامَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ حَتَّى وَقَعَ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي قَالَ: فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ إِلَيْهِ لِيَأْخُذَهُ فَطَارَ مِنَ الْكُوَّةِ فَنَظَرَ أَيْنَ يَقَعُ فَبَعَثَ فِي أَثَرِهِ قَالَ: فَأَبْصَرَ امْرَأَةً تَغْتَسِلُ عَلَى سَطْحٍ لَهَا فَرَأَى امْرَأَةً مِنْ أَجْمَلِ النِّسَاءِ خَلْقًا فَحَانَتْ مِنْهَا الْتِفَاتَةٌ فَأَبْصَرَتْهُ فَأَلْقَتْ شَعَرَهَا فَاسْتَتَرْتُ بِهِ فَزَادَهُ ذَلِكَ فِيهَا رَغْبَةً قَالَ: فَسَأَلَ عَنْهَا فَأُخْبِرَ أَنَّ لَهَا زَوْجًا وَأَنَّ زَوْجَهَا غَائِبٌ بِمِسْلَحَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ: فَبَعَثَ إِلَى صَاحِبِ الْمِسْلَحَةِ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَبْعَثَهُ إِلَى عَدُوِّهِ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ: فَبَعَثَهُ فَفَتَحَ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَبْعَثُهُ إِلَى أَنْ قُتِلَ فِي الْمَرَّةِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَتَهُ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكَيْنِ فِي صُورَةِ إِنْسِيَّيْنِ فَطَلَبَا أَنْ يَدْخُلَا عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدَاهُ فِي يَوْمِ عِبَادَتِهِ فَمَنَعَهُمَا الْحَرَسُ أَنْ يَدْخُلَا عَلَيْهِ فَتَسَوَّرَا عَلَيْهِ الْمِحْرَابِ قَالَ: فَمَا شَعَرَ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي إِذْ هُوَ بِهِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ جَالِسَيْنِ قَالَ: فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمَا فَقَالَا: لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ خَصْمَانِ بَغَى بَعْضُنَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ، وَلَا تُشْطِطْ. يَقُولُ: لَا تَخَفْ "" وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ فِي إِقْرَارِهِ بِخَطِيئَتِهِ [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 4134 - سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
