Mention of the avoidance of combat by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him)

Mustadrak Al Hakim 4665
Malik ibn Dinar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked Said ibn Jubair (may Allah be pleased with him), "O Abu Abdullah! Who was the standard-bearer of knowledge of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?" He ( Malik ibn Dinar) said: He looked at me and said, "You are very weak-hearted." I didn't like this statement. I complained about him to his companions from the Quraysh tribe. I said, "Aren't you surprised by Said? I asked him who was the standard-bearer of knowledge of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and he looked at me and said, 'You are a very weak-hearted person.'" The people said, "You asked this question from him but he is afraid of Hajjaj, due to which he is taking refuge in his house. Now you (again) ask him the same question." I asked him the same question again, so he said, "The standard-bearer of knowledge of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)." In the same way, I have also heard this from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them). **This Hadith is Sahih al-Isnad, but Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) did not narrate it.** A Hadith narrated by Zanfal 'Urfi also supports this Hadith, but it is very lengthy, therefore, I have not narrated it (here).
" حضرت مالک بن دینار رضی اللہ عنہ فرماتے ہیں : میں نے سعید بن جبیر رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا : اے ابوعبداللہ ! رسول اللہ ﷺ کا علم بردار کون تھا ؟ ( حضرت مالک بن دینار رضی اللہ عنہ ) فرماتے ہیں : انہوں نے میری جانب دیکھا ، اور بولے : تم بہت کمزور دل ہو ، یہ بات مجھے اچھی نہ لگی ، میں نے ان کے قراء ساتھیوں سے ان کی شکایت کر دی ، میں نے کہا : تمہیں سعید پر حیرانی نہیں ہوتی ؟ میں نے اس سے پوچھا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کا علمبردار کون تھا ؟ اس نے ایک نظر مجھے دیکھا اور بولا : تو بہت کمزور دل شخص ہے ۔ لوگوں نے کہا : تو نے یہ سوال تو اس سے کر لیا ہے لیکن وہ حجاج سے خوف زدہ ہے ، جس کی وجہ سے وہ اپنے گھر میں پناہ گزین ہے ، اب آپ ( دوبارہ ) اس سے یہی سوال کر کے دیکھیں ۔ میں نے دوبارہ وہی سوال ان سے کیا تو وہ بولے : رسول اللہ ﷺ کے علم بردار حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ تھے ، بالکل اسی طرح میں نے حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے بھی سنا ہے ۔ ٭٭ یہ حدیث صحیح الاسناد ہے لیکن امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ اور امام مسلم رحمۃ اللہ علیہ نے اس کو نقل نہیں کیا ہے ۔ زنفل عرفی سے مروی کی ایک حدیث اس حدیث کی شاہد بھی موجود ہے لیکن اس میں طول بہت ہے اس لئے میں نے اس کو ( یہاں ) نقل نہیں کیا ۔"
Hazrat Malik bin Dinaar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) farmate hain : maine Saeed bin Jubair (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se poocha : aye Abu Abdullah ! Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka Ilm bardar kaun tha ? ( Hazrat Malik bin Dinaar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ) farmate hain : unhon ne meri jaanib dekha , aur bole : tum bahut kamzor dil ho , yeh baat mujhe achhi na lagi , maine un ke qara sathiyon se un ki shikayat kar di , maine kaha : tumhen Saeed par hairani nahi hoti ? maine is se poocha ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka Ilmbardar kaun tha ? is ne ek nazar mujhe dekha aur bola : tu bahut kamzor dil shakhs hai . logon ne kaha : tu ne yeh sawal to is se kar liya lekin woh Hajjaj se khauf zada hai , jis ki wajah se woh apne ghar mein panah guzeen hai , ab aap ( dobara ) is se yahi sawal kar ke dekhen . maine dobara wohi sawal un se kiya to woh bole : Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke Ilm bardar Hazrat Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) the , bilkul isi tarah maine Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se bhi suna hai . ** yeh hadees sahih al isnad hai lekin Imam Bukhari Rahmatullahi Alaih aur Imam Muslim Rahmatullahi Alaih ne is ko naqal nahi kiya hai . Zanfal Arfi se marvi ki ek hadees is hadees ki shahid bhi maujood hai lekin is mein tul bahut hai is liye maine is ko ( yahan ) naqal nahi kiya .
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقَطِيعِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا سَيَّارُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَنْ كَانَ حَامِلُ رَايَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ وَقَالَ: كَأَنَّكَ رَخِيُّ الْبَالِ، فَغَضِبْتُ وَشَكَوْتُهُ إِلَى إِخْوَانِهِ مِنَ الْقُرَّاءِ فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا تَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ سَعِيدٍ؟ أَنِّي سَأَلْتُهُ مَنْ كَانَ حَامِلَ رَايَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ وَقَالَ: إِنَّكَ لَرَخِيُّ الْبَالِ، قَالُوا: إِنَّكَ سَأَلْتُهُ وَهُوَ خَائِفٌ مِنَ الْحَجَّاجِ، وَقَدْ لَاذَ بِالْبَيْتِ فَسَلْهُ الْآنَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: «كَانَ حَامِلَهَا عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ» هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ، وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» وَلِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ شَاهِدٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ زَنْفَلَ الْعُرْفِيِّ وَفِيهِ طُولٌ فَلَمْ أُخَرِّجْهُ [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 4665 - حذفه الذهبي من التلخيص لضعفه
