Chapter: Dyeing the Hair with Yellow Dye

باب الْخِضَابِ بِالصُّفْرَةِ ‏‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5085

Zaid bin Aslam narrated that he saw Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) dyeing his beard yellow with Khaluq and he asked, ‘O Abu Abdur-Rahman (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ), are you dyeing your beard yellow with Khaluq?’ He said, ‘I saw the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) dyeing his beard yellow with it, and there was no other kind of dye that was dearer to him than this. He used to dye all of his clothes with it, even his Imamah (turban).’ Imam Abu Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasi) said, ‘this is likely more correct than the narration of Abu Qutaibah (رضي الله تعالى عنه).

زید بن اسلم کہتے ہیں کہ ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما اپنی ڈاڑھی خلوق سے پیلی کرتے تھے، میں نے کہا: ابوعبدالرحمٰن! آپ اپنی ڈاڑھی خلوق سے پیلی کرتے ہیں؟ کہا: میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو دیکھا کہ آپ اس سے اپنی ڈاڑھی پیلی کرتے تھے، اور کوئی بھی رنگ آپ کو اس سے زیادہ پسند نہیں تھا، آپ اس سے اپنے تمام کپڑے یہاں تک کہ اپنی پگڑی بھی رنگتے تھے ۲؎۔ ابوعبدالرحمٰن ( نسائی ) کہتے ہیں: ابوقتیبہ کی حدیث کے مقابلے میں یہ زیادہ قرین صواب ہے ۳؎۔

Zaid bin Aslam kehte hain ke Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a apni daarhi khulq se peeli karte the, main ne kaha: Abu Abdur Rahman! Aap apni daarhi khulq se peeli karte hain? Kaha: main ne Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko dekha ke aap is se apni daarhi peeli karte the, aur koi bhi rang aap ko is se zyada pasand nahi tha, aap is se apne tamam kapre yahan tak ke apni pagri bhi rangte the 2. Abu Abdur Rahman (Nasai) kehte hain: Abu Qatibah ki hadees ke muqable mein yeh zyada qarin sabab hai 3.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يُصَفِّرُ لِحْيَتَهُ بِالْخَلُوقِ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّكَ تُصَفِّرُ لِحْيَتَكَ بِالْخَلُوقِ ‏.‏ قَالَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُصَفِّرُ بِهَا لِحْيَتَهُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ شَىْءٌ مِنَ الصِّبْغِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْهَا وَلَقَدْ كَانَ يَصْبُغُ بِهَا ثِيَابَهُ كُلَّهَا حَتَّى عِمَامَتَهُ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا أَوْلَى بِالصَّوَابِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ قُتَيْبَةَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5086

Qatadah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that he asked Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه), ‘did the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) dye his hair?’ He said, ‘his gray hair didn't go far, it was only a little at his temples.’


Grade: Sahih

قتادہ کہتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا: کیا رسول اللہ ﷺ نے خضاب لگایا تھا؟ کہا: آپ کو اس کی حاجت نہ تھی، کیونکہ صرف تھوڑی سی سفیدی کان کے پاس تھی۔

Qataadah kehte hain ke unhon ne Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se poocha: kya Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khudaab lagaaya tha? Kaha: aap ko is ki hajat nah thi, kyunki sirf thodi si safedi kaan ke paas thi.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ هَلْ خَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَىْءٌ فِي صُدْغَيْهِ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5087

Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did not dye his hair, his gray hair was only a little beneath his lower lip and at his temples, and a little on his head.


Grade: Sahih

انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ خضاب نہیں لگاتے تھے، کیونکہ تھوڑی سی سفیدی آپ کے ہونٹ کے نیچے تھے، تھوڑی سی کان کے پاس ڈاڑھی میں اور تھوڑی سی سر میں۔

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُثَنَّى، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَمْ يَكُنْ يَخْضِبُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ الشَّمَطُ عِنْدَ الْعَنْفَقَةِ يَسِيرًا وَفِي الصُّدْغَيْنِ يَسِيرًا وَفِي الرَّأْسِ يَسِيرًا ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5088

Abdullah bin Mas'ud ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) disliked ten things: Yellow dye, meaning Khaluq, changing gray hair, dragging one's Izar, wearing gold rings, playing with dice (Ki'ab), (a woman) showing her adornment to people to whom it is not permissible for her to show it, reciting Ruqyah, unless it is with Al-Mu'awidhat (Verses seeking refuge with Allah), hanging amulets, removing to ejaculate in other than the right place, and taking away the milk of an infant boy (by having intercourse with his mother) but he did not say that this is Haram.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ کو دس عادتیں ناپسند تھیں: پیلا رنگ لگانا یعنی خلوق، بڑھاپے کا رنگ بدلنا ۱؎، تہبند ( لنگی ) ٹخنے سے نیچے لٹکانا، سونے کی انگوٹھی پہننا، چوسر شطرنج کھیلنا، بے موقع و محل عورتوں کا اجنبیوں کے سامنے بن ٹھن کر نکلنا، معوذات کے علاوہ دوسرے منتر پڑھنا، تعویذ لٹکانا، ناجائز جگہ میں منی بہانا، بچے کو صحت مند نہ ہونے دینا، ۲؎ البتہ آپ اسے حرام نہیں کہتے تھے۔

Abdul'lah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه)u se riwayat hai ke Nabi-e-Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko das aadatayn na pasand thin: peela rang lagana yani khilooq, budhaape ka rang badalna 1؎, tehband ( langi ) takhne se niche latkana, sone ki angothi pahenna, chusar shatranj khelna, be maqam wa mahall auraton ka ajnabiyon ke samne ban t'han kar nikalna, mu'awizat ke ilawa doosre mantr padhna, ta'weez latkana, najayiz jagah mein mani bahana, bacche ko sehat mand nah honay dena, 2؎ balke aap isay haram nahin kahte the.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرُّكَيْنَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَكْرَهُ عَشْرَ خِصَالٍ الصُّفْرَةَ يَعْنِي الْخَلُوقَ وَتَغْيِيرَ الشَّيْبِ وَجَرَّ الإِزَارِ وَالتَّخَتُّمَ بِالذَّهَبِ وَالضَّرْبَ بِالْكِعَابِ وَالتَّبَرُّجَ بِالزِّينَةِ لِغَيْرِ مَحِلِّهَا وَالرُّقَى إِلاَّ بِالْمُعَوِّذَاتِ وَتَعْلِيقَ التَّمَائِمِ وَعَزْلَ الْمَاءِ بِغَيْرِ مَحِلِّهِ وَإِفْسَادَ الصَّبِيِّ غَيْرَ مُحَرِّمِهِ ‏.‏
