Chapter: Seeking Refuge with Allah from the Evil of What One has Not Done

باب الاِسْتِعَاذَةِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ يَعْمَلْ ‏‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5527

Farwah bin Nawfal narrated that he asked Ummul Momineen Aishah (رضي الله تعالى عنها), 'tell me of something that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say in his supplication.' She said, 'the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say - ِّ ِّ مَا عَمِّلْتُ وَمِّنْ شَراللَّهُمَّ إِّن ِّي أَعُوذُ بِّكَ مِّنْ شَر ْمَا لَمْ أَعْمَل [O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done and from the evil of what I have not done].


Grade: Sahih

فردہ بن نوفل کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے سوال کیا کہ مجھے کوئی ایسی چیز بتائیے جس کی رسول اللہ ﷺ دعا کرتے رہے ہوں؟ وہ بولیں: رسول اللہ ﷺ کہا کرتے تھے: ”اے اللہ! میں اس عمل کے شر سے تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں جو میں نے کیا ہے اور جو نہیں کیا ہے“۔

Fardah bin Naufil kehte hain ke main ne Ummul Momineen Ayesha radiyallahu anha se sawal kiya ke mujhe koi aisi cheez bataiye jis ki Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) dua karte rahe hon? Woh bolin: Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kaha karte the: "Ya Allah! Main is amal ke shar se teri panaah mangta hoon jo main ne kiya hai aur jo nahin kiya hai".

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ هِلاَلِ بْنِ يِسَافٍ، عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ فَقُلْتُ حَدِّثِينِي بِشَىْءٍ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدْعُو بِهِ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏"‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 5528

Farwah bin Nawfal narrated that he asked Ummul Momineen Aishah (رضي الله تعالى عنها), 'tell me of a supplication that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to say.' She said, he used to say - ْ ِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَل ِّ مَا عَمِّلْتُ وَمِّنْ شَراللَّهُمَّ إِّن ِّي أَعُوذُ بِّكَ مِّنْ شَر [O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done and from the evil of what I have not done].


Grade: Sahih

فروہ بن نوفل کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا: مجھے ایسی دعا بتائیے جو رسول اللہ ﷺ کرتے رہے ہوں۔ وہ بولیں: آپ ﷺ کہا کرتے تھے: «اللہم إني أعوذ بك من شر ما عملت ومن شر ما لم أعمل» ”اے اللہ! میں اس عمل کے شر سے تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں جو میں نے کیا ہے اور جو نہیں کیا ہے“۔

Farooq bin Noufal kehte hain ke main ne Ummul Momineen Ayesha radiyallahu anha se kaha: Mujhe aisi dua bataiye jo Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) karte rahe hon. Woh bolein: Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kaha karte the: «Allahuma inni auzu bika min sharri ma amaltu wa min sharri ma lam aamal» “Aye Allah! Main is amal ke shar se teri panaah mangta hun jo maine kiya hai aur jo nahin kiya hai”.

أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، سَمِعْتُ هِلاَلَ بْنَ يِسَافٍ، عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَخْبِرِينِي بِدُعَاءٍ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدْعُو بِهِ ‏.‏ قَالَتْ كَانَ يَقُولُ ‏"‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
