Sunan an-Nasa'i 5278
Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) wanted to write to the Romans, and they (the Companions) said, ‘they do not read any letter unless it has a seal.’ So, he took a ring of silver, and it is as if I can see its whiteness on his hand and engraved on it (were the words): “Muhammad Rasulallah.”

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے شاہ روم کو خط لکھنے کا ارادہ کیا تو لوگوں نے کہا: وہ ایسی کوئی تحریر نہیں پڑھتے جس پر مہر نہ ہو، چنانچہ آپ نے چاندی کی انگوٹھی بنوائی، گویا میں آپ کے ہاتھ میں اس کی سفیدی کو ( اس وقت بھی ) دیکھ رہا ہوں، اس میں «محمد رسول اللہ» نقش تھا۔
Ins razi Allah unhu kehte hain ke Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Shah Rum ko khat likhne ka irada kiya to logon ne kaha: woh aisi koi tahreer nahin padhte jis par mehr nah ho, chananche aap ne chaandi ki angothi banwai, goya main aap ke hath mein is ki safedi ko ( is waqt bhi ) dekh raha hun, is mein «Muhammad Rasoolullah» naqsh tha.
أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، عَنْ بِشْرٍ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الرُّومِ فَقَالُوا إِنَّهُمْ لاَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَابًا إِلاَّ مَخْتُومًا . فَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِهِ وَنُقِشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ .
