Sunan an-Nasa'i 538
It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said: "The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) led us in Maghrib prayer, then he did not come out to us until half the night had passed. Then he came out and led them in prayer, then he said: 'The people have prayed and gone to sleep, but you are still in a state of prayer so long as you are waiting for the prayer. Were it not for the weakness of the weak and the sickness of the sick, I would have commanded that this prayer be delayed until halfway through the night.'"

ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ہم لوگوں کو مغرب پڑھائی، پھر آپ نہیں نکلے یہاں تک کہ آدھی رات گزر گئی، پھر نکلے اور آپ نے لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی، پھر فرمایا: لوگ نماز پڑھ کر سو گئے ہیں، اور تم لوگ جب تک نماز کا انتظار کرتے رہے نماز ہی میں تھے، اگر کمزور کی کمزوری، اور بیمار کی بیماری نہ ہوتی تو میں حکم دیتا کہ اس نماز کو آدھی رات تک مؤخر کیا جائے ۔
Abu Saeed Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM ne hum logo ko Maghrib padhai, phir aap nahin nikle yahin tak ke aadhi raat guzar gai, phir nikle aur aap ne logo ko namaz padhai, phir farmaaya: Log namaz padh kar so gaye hain, aur tum log jab tak namaz ka intezar karte rahe namaz hi mein the, agar kamzor ki kamzori, aur bemar ki bimari nah hoti to mein hukm deta ke is namaz ko aadhi raat tak mauqur kiya jaaye.
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صَلاَةَ الْمَغْرِبِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْنَا حَتَّى ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ " إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلُّوا وَنَامُوا وَأَنْتُمْ لَمْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلاَةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُ الصَّلاَةَ وَلَوْلاَ ضَعْفُ الضَّعِيفِ وَسُقْمُ السَّقِيمِ لأَمَرْتُ بِهَذِهِ الصَّلاَةِ أَنْ تُؤَخَّرَ إِلَى شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ " .
