Sunan an-Nasa'i 921
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he says the takbir, say the takbir, and when he recites, be silent, and when he says - ُ َّسَمِعَ َّللا ُلِمَنْ حَمِدَه [Allah hears those who praise Him], say - َُ بَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْداللَّهُمَّ ر [Our Lord, to You be praise].

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: امام تو بنایا ہی اس لیے گیا ہے کہ اس کی اقتداء کی جائے، تو جب وہ اللہ اکبر کہے تو تم بھی اللہ اکبر کہو، اور جب قرآت کرے تو تم خاموش رہو ۱؎، اور جب «سمع اللہ لمن حمده» کہے تو تم «اللہم ربنا لك الحمد» کہو ۔
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Imam to banaya hi is liye gaya hai ke us ki iqtida ki jae, to jab woh Allah Akbar kahe to tum bhi Allah Akbar kaho, aur jab Quranat kare to tum khamosh raho, aur jab "Sama Allahu Liman Hamda" kahe to tum "Allahumma Rabbana Lakal Hamd" kaho.
أَخْبَرَنَا الْجَارُودُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ التِّرْمِذِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا قَرَأَ فَأَنْصِتُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ " .
