Regarding a man who steals dates or food.

Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 28588
Hazrat Hassan Basri states that a man who had stolen food was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not cut off his hand.
حضرت حسن بصری فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس ایک آدمی لایا گیا جس نے کھانا چوری کیا تھا تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اس کا ہاتھ نہیں کاٹا۔
Hazrat Hasan Basri farmate hain keh Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas ek aadmi laya gaya jis ne khana chori kiya tha to aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne us ka hath nahi kata.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، وعَمْرٍو ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ : « أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﵇ أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ سَرَقَ طَعَامًا ، فَلَمْ يَقْطَعْهُ »
