The Words of Umar ibn al-Khattab

Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 34461
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Verily, when a person humbles himself for the sake of Allah, Allah raises his status and says: 'Rise, Allah has raised you.' So this person becomes small in his own eyes and great in the eyes of the people. And verily, when a person acts arrogantly and transgresses his limits, Allah makes him fall to the ground and says: 'Be humiliated, Allah has humiliated you.' So this person becomes great in his own eyes and small in the eyes of the people, until he becomes more insignificant than a pig in their eyes."
حضرت عبید اللہ بن عدی سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت عمر (رض) نے فرمایا : بیشک بندہ جب اللہ کے لیے تواضع کرتا ہے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی شان بلند کردیتے ہیں اور فرماتے ہیں : اٹھ کھڑا ہو، اللہ تجھے بلند کرے۔ پس یہ آدمی اپنے آپ میں چھوٹا ہوتا ہے اور لوگوں کے ہاں بڑا ہوتا ہے۔ اور بیشک بندہ بڑائی اختیار کرتا ہے اور اپنی حد کو تجاوز کرتا ہے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کو زمین پر پٹخ دیتے ہیں اور فرماتے ہیں : ذلیل ہوجا۔ اللہ نے تجھے ذلیل کیا۔ پس یہ آدمی اپنے آپ میں بڑا ہوتا ہے اور لوگوں کے ہاں چھوٹا ہوتا ہے۔ یہاں تک کہ یہ لوگوں کے ہاں خنزیر سے بھی حقیر ہوجاتا ہے۔
Hazrat Ubaid Ullah bin Adi se riwayat hai woh kehte hain ke Hazrat Umar (RA) ne farmaya: Beshak banda jab Allah ke liye tawazu karta hai to Allah Ta'ala uski shaan buland karte hain aur farmate hain: Uth khara ho, Allah tujhe buland kare. Pas yeh aadmi apne aap mein chhota hota hai aur logon ke yahan bada hota hai. Aur beshak banda barai ikhtiyar karta hai aur apni had ko tajawuz karta hai to Allah Ta'ala usko zameen par patakh dete hain aur farmate hain: Zaleel hoja. Allah ne tujhe zaleel kiya. Pas yeh aadmi apne aap mein bada hota hai aur logon ke yahan chhota hota hai. Yahan tak ke yeh logon ke yahan khazir se bhi haqir hojata hai.
أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ ، وَابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، وَابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ ، ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنْ ، بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ ، عَنْ ، مَعْمَرِ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ ، عَنْ ، عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ : " إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا تَوَاضَعَ لِلَّهِ رَفَعَ اللَّهُ حِكْمَتَهُ ، وَقَالَ : انْتَعِشْ نَعَشَكَ اللَّهُ ، فَهُوَ فِي نَفْسِهِ صَغِيرٌ وَفِي أَنْفُسِ النَّاسِ كَبِيرٌ ، وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا تَعَظَّمَ وَعَدَا طَوْرَهُ رَهَصَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ وَقَالَ اخْسَأْ أَخْسَأَكَ اللَّهُ ، فَهُوَ فِي نَفْسِهِ كَبِيرٌ وَفِي أَنْفُسِ النَّاسِ صَغِيرٌ حَتَّى لَهُوَ أَحْقَرُ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ خِنْزِيرٍ "
