كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz
كَلَامُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 35083
It is narrated on the authority of Hadrat Marif that he said: I saw Hadrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz at Arafat, he was delivering a sermon to the people and he was wearing two green clothes. When you (may Allah be pleased with you) mentioned death, he said: "It is a severe distress but not like the common severe distresses. It is an intense grief but not like the common intense griefs."
حضرت معرف سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے حضرت عمر بن عبدالعزیز کو مقام عرفہ میں دیکھا وہ لوگوں کو خطبہ دے رہے تھے اور ان پر دو سبز کپڑے تھے۔ آپ (رض) نے موت کا ذکر کیا تو فرمایا : وہ سخت تکلیف ہے لیکن عام سخت تکالیف کی طرح نہیں ہے۔ وہ سخت غم ہے لیکن عام سخت غموں کی طرح نہیں ہے۔
Hazrat Ma'rif se riwayat hai woh kehte hain ke maine Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz ko maqam Arafah mein dekha woh logon ko khutba de rahe the aur un par do sabz kapre the Aap (RA) ne mout ka zikr kiya to farmaya woh sakht takleef hai lekin aam sakht takaleef ki tarah nahi hai woh sakht gham hai lekin aam sakht ghamon ki tarah nahi hai
أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ بِعَرَفَةَ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ ، وَذَكَرَ الْمَوْتَ ، فَقَالَ : « غَنْظٌ لَيْسَ كَالْغَنْظِ ، وَكَظٌّ لَيْسَ كَالْكَظِّ »
