Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2992
Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that when this Ayah was revealed – [To Allah belongs all, whatever is in the heavens and all whatever is in the earth; and whether you disclose what is in your hearts or hide it, Allah will take account of it from you; so, He will forgive whoever He wills and punish whoever He wills; and Allah has the power over all the things.] (Al-Baqara - 284). Somethings entered their hearts that had not entered before. So, they mentioned that to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and he said, 'Say, ‘we hear and we obey.’ So, Allah put faith into their hearts and Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed the Ayah – [The Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) believes in what has been sent down to hiؑ by his Lord, and so do the believers; all have accepted faith in Allah. Allah does not burden anyone beyond his capacity. Everyone will enjoy the virtue he earned and will suffer for the evil he earned.] (Al-Baqara: 285-86). He said, 'I have done so (as requested).' [Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error.] (Al-Baqara - 286). He said, 'I have done so (as requested).' [Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy on us.] (Al-Baqara - 286). He said, 'I have done so (as requested).' Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan. This has been related from routes other than this from Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and Adaؑ bin Sulaiؑan’s father is Yahya bin Adaؑ. And there is something on this topic from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه).

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ جب یہ آیت «إن تبدوا ما في أنفسكم أو تخفوه يحاسبكم به الله» نازل ہوئی تو لوگوں کے دلوں میں ایسا خوف و خطر پیدا ہوا جو اور کسی چیز سے پیدا نہ ہوا تھا۔ لوگوں نے یہ بات نبی اکرم ﷺ سے کہی تو آپ نے فرمایا: ” ( پہلے تو ) تم «سمعنا وأطعنا» کہو یعنی ہم نے سنا اور ہم نے بے چون و چرا بات مان لی، ( چنانچہ انہوں نے ایسا ہی کہا ) تو اللہ نے ان کے دلوں میں ایمان ڈال دیا۔ اور اس کے بعد اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ نے یہ آیتیں نازل فرمائیں «آمن الرسول بما أنزل إليه من ربه والمؤمنون» سے لے کر آخری آیت «لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها لها ما كسبت وعليها ما اكتسبت ربنا لا تؤاخذنا إن نسينا أو أخطأنا»، اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے ایسا کر دیا ( تمہاری دعا قبول کر لی ) “ «ربنا ولا تحمل علينا إصرا كما حملته على الذين من قبلنا» ”ہمارے رب! ہم پر ایسا بوجھ نہ ڈال جیسا تو نے ہم سے پہلے لوگوں پر ڈالا“، اللہ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے تمہارا کہا کر دیا“، «ربنا ولا تحملنا ما لا طاقة لنا به واعف عنا واغفر لنا وارحمنا» ”اے اللہ! ہم پر ایسا بوجھ نہ ڈال جس کی طاقت ہم میں نہ ہو اور ہم سے درگزر فرما، اور ہمیں بخش دے اور ہم پر رحم فرما“، اللہ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے ایسا کر دیا ( یعنی تمہاری دعا قبول کر لی ) “۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے دوسری سند سے بھی مروی ہے، ۳- اس باب میں ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے بھی روایت ہے۔
Abdul'llah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kahte hain ke jab yeh aayat «In tabdoo maa fi anfusakum au takhfooh yahaseebakum bihi Allah» naazil hui to logon ke dilon mein aisa khouf o khatar paida hua jo aur kisi cheez se paida na hua tha. Logon ne yeh baat Nabi Akram sall Allahu alaihi wa sallam se kahi to aap ne farmaya: ” ( pahle to ) tum «Sama'na wa ata'na» kaho yani hum ne suna aur hum ne be chun o chera baat maan li, ( chananchh unhon ne aisa hi kaha ) to Allah ne un ke dilon mein emaan dal diya. Aur us ke baad Allah Tabarak wa Ta'ala ne yeh aayaten naazil farmayin «Aamanar rasul bima unzila laihum min Rabbihi wal muminoon» se le kar aakhiri aayat «La yukallifu Allahu nafsan illa was'aha laha ma kasabat wa alaiha ma ikhtasabat Rabbana la tu'akhiz'na in nasina au akhtana», Allah Ta'ala ne farmaya: ”Main ne aisa kar diya ( tumhari dua kabul kar li ) “ «Rabbana wa la tahmil'na isran kama hamiltahu ala alladhina min qablina» ”Hamara Rab! Hum per aisa bojh na daal jaisa tu ne hum se pahle logon per dala“, Allah ne farmaya: ”Main ne tumhara kaha kar diya“, «Rabbana wa la tahmilna ma la taqatana bihi wa'af 'anna waghfir lana wa'rhamna» ”Aye Allah! Hum per aisa bojh na daal jis ki taqat hum mein na ho aur hum se dargzar farma, aur hamen bakhsh de aur hum per reham farma“, Allah ne farmaya: ”Main ne aisa kar diya ( yani tumhari dua kabul kar li ) “۔ Imam Tirmidhi kahte hain: 1. Yeh hadees hasan sahih hai, 2. Yeh hadees Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se dosri sand se bhi marwi hai, 3. Is baab mein Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se bhi riwayat hai.
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ آدَمَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ سورة البقرة آية 284، قَالَ: دَخَلَ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ، فَقَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: فَقَالَ: قُولُوا: سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا فَأَلْقَى اللَّهُ الْإِيمَانَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ سورة البقرة آية 285 لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا سورة البقرة آية 286 قَالَ: قَدْ فَعَلْتُ رَبَّنَا وَلا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا سورة البقرة آية 286 قَالَ: قَدْ فَعَلْتُ رَبَّنَا وَلا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا سورة البقرة آية 286، قَالَ: قَدْ فَعَلْتُ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، وَآدَمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ يُقَالُ هُوَ وَالِدُ يَحْيَى بْنِ آدَمَ، وَفِي الْبَابِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.
