Jabir bin Samura (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying : Why do you stand in rows as the angels do in the presence of their Lord? We asked : how do the angles stand in rows in the presence of their Lord? He replied : they make the first row complete and keep close together in the row.

جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم لوگ اس طرح صف بندی کیوں نہیں کرتے جس طرح فرشتے اپنے رب کے پاس کرتے ہیں؟ ، ہم نے عرض کیا: فرشتے اپنے رب کے پاس کس طرح صف بندی کرتے ہیں؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: پہلے اگلی صف پوری کرتے ہیں اور صف میں ایک دوسرے سے خوب مل کر کھڑے ہوتے ہیں ۔
Jaber bin Samurah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log is tarah saf bandi kyon nahi karte jis tarah farishte apne Rab ke pas karte hain? Hum ne arz kiya: Farishte apne Rab ke pas kis tarah saf bandi karte hain? Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Pehle agali saf puri karte hain aur saf mein ek doosre se khoob mil kar khade hote hain.
Nu’man bin Bashir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) paid attention to the people and said three times; straighten your rows (in prayer); by Allah, you must straighten your rows, or Allah will certainly put your faces in contrary directions. I then saw that every person stood in prayer keeping his shoulder close to that of the other, and his knee close to that of the other, and his ankle close to that of the other.

ابوالقاسم جدلی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ عنہما کو کہتے سنا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا: تم لوگ اپنی صفیں درست کرو - یہ ( جملہ آپ نے تاکید کے طور پر ) تین بار کہا- اللہ کی قسم تم لوگ اپنی صفیں درست کرو، ورنہ اللہ تعالیٰ تمہارے دلوں میں پھوٹ ڈال دے گا ، نعمان بن بشیر کہتے ہیں: تو میں نے آدمی کو اپنے ساتھی کے مونڈھے سے مونڈھا، گھٹنے سے گھٹنا اور ٹخنے سے ٹخنہ ملا کر کھڑا ہوتے دیکھا۔
Abu-l-Qasim Judali kehte hain ke main ne Numan bin Bashir ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ko kehte suna ke Rasul-Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) logoon ki taraf mutavajjeh hue aur farmaya: Tum log apni safin darust karo - yeh ( jumla aap ne takreed ke tor par ) teen bar kaha- Allah ki qasam tum log apni safin darust karo, warna Allah Ta'ala tumhare dilon mein phut dal dega , Numan bin Bashir kehte hain: To main ne aadmi ko apne sathi ke mondhe se mondha, ghatne se ghatna aur takhne se takhna mila kar khada hote dekha.
Nu’man bin Bashir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to straighten us in the rows of prayer as the arrow is straightened, until he thought that we had learned it from him and understood it. One day he turned towards us, and shoulders in order, and say; do not be irregular. And he would say : Allah and his Angels bless those who near the first rows.

نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ ہماری صفیں درست کیا کرتے تھے، جیسے تیر درست کیے جاتے ہیں ( اور یہ سلسلہ برابر جاری رہا ) یہاں تک کہ آپ کو یقین ہو گیا کہ ہم نے اسے آپ سے خوب اچھی طرح سیکھ اور سمجھ لیا ہے، تو ایک روز آپ متوجہ ہوئے، اتنے میں دیکھا کہ ایک شخص اپنا سینہ صف سے آگے نکالے ہوئے ہے، تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم لوگ اپنی صفیں برابر رکھو، ورنہ اللہ تعالیٰ تمہارے درمیان اختلاف پیدا کر دے گا ۔
Numan bin Bashir ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Nabi-e-Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hamari safin durust kiya karte the, jaise teer durust kiye jate hain ( aur yeh silsila barabar jari raha ) yahan tak ke aap ko yakin ho gaya ke hum ne isse aap se khoob achhi tarah seekh aur samajh liya hai, to ek roz aap mutawajjah hue, itne mein dekha ke ek shakhs apna seenah saf se aage nikale hue hai, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log apni safin barabar rakho, warna Allah Ta'ala tumhare darmiyan ikhtilaf paida kar de ga.
Al-Bara' Ibn Azib (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to pass through the row from one side to the other; he used to set out chests and shoulders in order, and say: Do not be irregular. And he would say : Allah and His angels bless those who are near the first rows.

براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ صفوں کے اندر ایک طرف سے دوسری طرف جاتے اور ہمارے سینوں اور مونڈھوں پر ہاتھ پھیرتے تھے ( یعنی ہمارے سینوں اور مونڈھوں کو برابر کرتے تھے ) ، اور فرماتے تھے: ( صفوں سے ) آگے پیچھے مت ہونا، ورنہ تمہارے دل مختلف ہو جائیں گے ، آپ ﷺ فرماتے تھے: اللہ تعالیٰ اگلی صفوں پر اپنی رحمت بھیجتا ہے اور اس کے فرشتے دعا کرتے ہیں ۔
Baraa bin Aazib ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Rasoolallah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) safon ke andar ek taraf se doosri taraf jaate aur hamare seenon aur mondhon par hath phirte the ( yani hamare seenon aur mondhon ko barabar karte the ), aur farmate the: ( safon se ) aage peeche mat hona, warna tumhare dil mukhtalif ho jaayenge, aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) farmate the: Allah Ta'ala agli safon per apni rahmat bhejtta hai aur uske farishte dua karte hain.
Nu’man bin Bashir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to straighten our rows when we stood up to pray, and when we were straight, he said : Allah is most great (Takbir).

نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ جب ہم نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوتے تو رسول اللہ ﷺ ہماری صفیں درست فرماتے، پھر جب ہم لوگ سیدھے ہو جاتے تو آپ «الله أكبر» کہتے۔
Numan bin Bashir ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke jab hum namaz ke liye khare hote to Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hamari safain durust farmate, phir jab hum log sidhe ho jate to aap «Allah Akbar» kehte.
Abdullah Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : Set the rows in order, stand shoulder to shoulder, close the gaps, be pliant in the hands of your brethren, and do not leave openings for the devil. If anyone joins up a row, Allah will join him up, but if anyone breaks a row, Allah will cut him off (from His Mercy) and whoever severs a row, Allah will sever (His mercy) from him.
Imam Abu Dawud said : The name of Abu Shajarah (one of the narrators) is Kathir bin Murrah. He said the meaning of 'be gentle with the hands of your brothers' is that if a person comes to a row and wishes to enter it, then every person should ease (give space) for him so that he can stand in the row.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ ( قتیبہ کی روایت میں جسے انہوں نے ابوزاہریہ سے، اور ابوزاہریہ نے ابوشجرہ ( کثیر بن مرہ ) سے روایت کیا ہے، ابن عمر کا ذکر نہیں ہے ) رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم لوگ اپنی صفیں درست کرو، اور اپنے کندھے ایک دوسرے کے مقابل میں رکھو، اور ( صفوں کے اندر کا ) شگاف بند کرو، اور اپنے بھائیوں کے ہاتھوں میں نرم ہو جاؤ اور شیطان کے لیے خالی جگہ نہ چھوڑو، جو شخص صف کو ملائے گا، اللہ تعالیٰ اسے ملائے گا، اور جو شخص صف کو کاٹے گا اللہ تعالیٰ اسے کاٹ دے گا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: «لينوا بأيدي إخوانكم» کا مطلب ہے کہ جب کوئی شخص صف کی طرف آئے اور اس میں داخل ہونا چاہے تو ہر ایک کو چاہیئے کہ اس کے لیے اپنے کندھے نرم کر دے یہاں تک کہ وہ صف میں داخل ہو جائے۔
Abdul-Allah bin Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kahte hain ke ( Qatiba ki riwayat mein jise unhon ne Abuzahiriya se, aur Abuzahiriya ne Abushajarah ( Kasir bin Marah ) se riwayat kiya hai, Ibn Umar ka zikr nahi hai ) Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log apni safain durust karo, aur apne kandhe ek doosre ke muqabil mein rakho, aur ( safon ke andar ka ) shagaf band karo, aur apne bhaiyon ke hathoon mein naram ho jao aur shaitan ke liye khali jagah nah chhodo, jo shakhse saf ko milaiye ga, Allah Ta'ala usay milaiye ga, aur jo shakhse saf ko katega Allah Ta'ala usay kat dega . Abudaood kahte hain: «Linwa bi Aidi Ikhwanikum» ka matlab hai ke jab koi shakhse saf ki taraf aye aur us mein dakhil hona chahe to har ek ko chahiye ke us ke liye apne kandhe naram kar de yahin tak ke woh saf mein dakhil ho jaye.
Anas Ibn Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : Stand close together in your rows, bring them near one another, and stand neck to neck, for by Him in Whose hand my soul is, I see the devil coming in through openings in the row just like a small black sheep.

انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم لوگ صفوں میں خوب مل کر کھڑے ہو، اور ایک صف دوسری صف سے نزدیک رکھو، اور گردنوں کو بھی ایک دوسرے کے مقابل میں رکھو، اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے، میں شیطان کو دیکھتا ہوں وہ صفوں کے بیچ میں سے گھس آتا ہے، گویا وہ بکری کا بچہ ہے ۔
Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai ke ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log safon mein khub mil kar khare ho, aur ek saf dusri saf se nazdik rakho, aur gardanon ko bhi ek dusre ke muqabil mein rakho, is zat ki qasam jis ke hath mein meri jaan hai, mein shaitan ko dekhta hun wo safon ke bich mein se ghus aata hai, goya wo bakri ka bachcha hai.
Anas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) reported the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying : Straighten your rows for the straightening of the rows is part of perfecting the prayer.

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم لوگ اپنی صفیں درست رکھو کیونکہ صف کی درستگی تکمیل نماز میں سے ہے ( یعنی اس کے بغیر نماز ادھوری رہتی ہے ) ۔
Anas Razi Allahu anhu kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log apni safain durust rakho kyunke saf ki durusti takmil namaz mein se hai ( yani is ke baghair namaz adhuri reh ti hai ) .
Muhammad bin Muslim bin al-Sa’ib said : one day I prayed by the side of Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه). He said; do you know why this stick is placed here? I said : No, by Allah. He said : The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to put his hand upon it and say : Keep straight and straighten your rows.

صاحب مقصورہ محمد بن مسلم بن سائب کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ایک روز انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کے بغل میں نماز پڑھی، تو انہوں نے کہا: کیا تم کو معلوم ہے کہ یہ لکڑی کیوں بنائی گئی ہے، میں نے کہا: اللہ کی قسم! مجھے اس کا علم نہیں، انس نے کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ اس پر اپنا ہاتھ رکھتے تھے، اور فرماتے تھے: برابر ہو جاؤ، اور اپنی صفیں سیدھی رکھو ۔
Sahib Maqsure Muhammad bin Muslim bin Saib kehte hain ke mein ne ek roz Ans bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke bagl mein namaz padhi, to unhon ne kaha: kya tum ko maloom hai ke yeh lakdi kyun banayi gayi hai, mein ne kaha: Allah ki qasam! mujhe is ka ilm nahi, Ans ne kaha: Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is par apna hath rakhte the, aur farmate the: barabar ho jao, aur apni safain sidhi rakhho.
This tradition has also been transmitted by Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) through a different chain of transmitters. This version goes : when the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stood for prayer, he took it (the stick) in his right hand and turning (to the right side) said; keep straight and straighten your rows. He then took it in his left hand and said; keep straight and straighten your rows.

اس سند سے بھی انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے یہی حدیث مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ جب نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوتے تو اس لکڑی کو اپنے داہنے ہاتھ سے پکڑتے، پھر ( نمازیوں کی طرف ) متوجہ ہوتے، اور فرماتے: سیدھے ہو جاؤ، اپنی صفیں درست کر لو ، پھر اسے بائیں ہاتھ سے پکڑتے اور فرماتے: سیدھے ہو جاؤ اور اپنی صفیں درست کر لو ۔
is sind se bhi ins (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se yehi hadees marwi hai ke rasool allahu salla allahu alaihi wa sallam jab namaz ke liye khade hote to is lakdi ko apne dahene hath se pakarte, phir ( namazion ki taraf ) mutwajah hote, aur farmate: sidhe ho jao, apni safain durust kar lo, phir use bayen hath se pakarte aur farmate: sidhe ho jao aur apni safain durust kar lo.
Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : Complete the front row, then the one that comes next, and if there is any incompleteness, let it be in the last row.

انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: پہلے اگلی صف پوری کرو، پھر اس کے بعد والی کو، اور جو کچھ کمی رہ جائے وہ پچھلی صف میں رہے ۔
Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: pehle agli saf puri karo, phir us ke bad wali ko, aur jo kuchh kami reh jaye wo pichhli saf mein rahe .
Abdullah Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : The best of you are those whose shoulders are soft in prayer.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم میں بہترین لوگ وہ ہیں جو نماز میں اپنے مونڈھوں کو نرم رکھنے والے ہیں ۱؎ ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: جعفر بن یحییٰ کا تعلق اہل مکہ سے ہے۔
Abdul'lah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Rasul'allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum mein behtarin log woh hain jo namaz mein apne mondon ko naram rakhne wale hain 1،. Abuda'ud kehte hain: Ja'far bin Yahya ka taluq ahl Makkah se hai.
