Abu Bakr reported that a man was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and someone praised him. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Woe to you! You have cut off the head of your companion!" and he repeated that several times. He went on, "If one of you must praise someone, he should say, 'I consider that so-and-so is such-and-such.' Allah is the One who will take account of him if he thinks that he is indeed like that, No one can appropriate Allah's right to attest to someone's character."

حضرت ابوبکرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی ﷺ کے پاس ایک آدمی کا ذکر ہوا تو ایک دوسرے آدمی نے اس کی (مبالغہ آمیز)تعریف کی تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا:’’افسوس ہے تجھے! تونے اپنے ساتھی کی گردن کاٹ دی۔‘‘ آپ بار بار یہ بات دہراتے رہے (پھر فرمایا:)’’اگر کوئی ضرور کسی کی تعریف کرنا چاہتا ہے تو وہ یوں کہے:میرے خیال میں وہ ایسا ایسا ہے، اگر واقعی وہ اسے ایسا سمجھتا ہے تو (ان الفاظ میں تعریف کر دے)ساتھ یوں بھی کہے:صحیح علم اللہ تعالیٰ کو ہے۔ وہی حساب لینے والا ہے اور وہ اللہ کے مقابلے میں کسی کا تزکیہ نہ کرے۔‘‘
Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah anhu se riwayat hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass ek aadmi ka zikr hua to ek dusre aadmi ne uski (mubalgha amez) tareef ki to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ''Afsos hai tujhe! Tune apne saathi ki gardan kaat di.'' Aap baar baar yeh baat dohraate rahe (phir farmaya:) ''Agar koi zaroor kisi ki tareef karna chahta hai to woh yun kahe: Mere khayal mein woh aisa aisa hai, agar waqai woh use aisa samajhta hai to (in alfaz mein tareef kar de) saath yun bhi kahe: Sahih ilm Allah Ta'ala ko hai. Wohi hisab lene wala hai aur woh Allah ke muqabale mein kisi ka tazkiya na kare.''
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ خَيْرًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: وَيْحَكَ قَطَعْتَ عُنُقَ صَاحِبِكَ، يَقُولُهُ مِرَارًا، إِنْ كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ مَادِحًا لاَ مَحَالَةَ فَلْيَقُلْ: أَحْسَبُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، إِنْ كَانَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ كَذَلِكَ، وَحَسِيبُهُ اللَّهُ، وَلاَ يُزَكِّي عَلَى اللهِ أَحَدًا.
