Hadith of Utban ibn Malik

حَدِیث عِتبَانَ بنِ مَالِك

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 16479

It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina 'Utbah that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the Chast prayer. When he finished the prayer with the Salam, we also finished our prayer after him. This prayer was offered by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in their mosque.

سیدنا عتبان سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے چاشت کی نماز پڑھی، جس وقت آپ نے سلام پھیرا، ہم بھی سلام پھیر کر فارغ ہو گئے، یہ نماز نبی ﷺ نے ان کی مسجد میں پڑھی تھی۔

Sayyidna Atban se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne chasht ki namaz parhi, jis waqt aap ne salam phera, hum bhi salam phir kar farigh ho gaye, yah namaz Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne un ki masjid mein parhi thi.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَارَكٍ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ رَبِيعٍ ، عَنْ عِتْبَانَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ:" صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضُحًى، وَسَلَّمْنَا حِينَ سَلَّمَ، وَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي صَلَّى بِهِمْ فِي مَسْجِدٍ عِنْدَهُمْ".

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 16480

Utban bin Malik had very weak eyesight (almost blind). He mentioned to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that he misses congregational prayers. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him, "Do you hear the call to prayer (Adhan)?" He replied, "Yes." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not grant him permission to miss the prayers.

سیدنا عتبان بن مالک کی بینائی انتہائی کمزور تھی (تقریبا نابینا تھے) انہوں نے نبی ﷺ سے اس بات کا تذکر ہ کیا کہ وہ جماعت کی نماز سے رہ جاتے ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ کیا تم اذان کی آواز سنتے ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا جی ہاں! تو نبی ﷺ نے انہیں عدم حاضری کی رخصت نہ دی۔

Sayyda Utbah bin Malik ki beenayi intahai kamzor thi (taqreeban nabeena thay) unhon ne Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) se is baat ka tazkara kiya ke woh jamaat ki namaz se reh jatay hain, Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne un se poocha ke kya tum azan ki awaz sunte ho? Unhon ne kaha ji haan! To Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne unhen adam hazri ki rukhsat na di.

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، فَسُئِلَ سُفْيَانُ عَمَّنْ؟، قَالَ: هُوَ مَحْمُودٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، أَنَّ عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ كَانَ رَجُلًا مَحْجُوبَ الْبَصَرِ، وَأَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التَّخَلُّفَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ، قَالَ:" هَلْ تَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ؟"، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَهُ.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: My eyesight is weak and there is this valley and darkness between you and me. If you could come and offer prayer in my house at some time, I will choose that as my place of prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) promised me that he would do so. So one day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came along with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). This news reached the Ansar and they started coming to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). But a man named Malik bin Dukhshun stayed behind, and people already used to accuse him of hypocrisy. The people stayed until it was time for food and began talking amongst themselves. In their conversations, they started saying, "Does he even know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has graced us with his presence? He has only stayed behind due to his hypocrisy." At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was offering prayer. After finishing the prayer, he said, "Alas! Doesn't he testify 'There is no god but Allah' with sincerity and fervor? Whoever testifies to this Kalima, Allah has forbidden the fire of Hell for him."

سیدنا عتبان رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: کہ میری نظر کمزور ہے اور میرے اور آپ کے درمیان یہ وادی اور ظلمت بھی حائل ہے، آپ کسی وقت تشریف لا کر میرے گھر میں نماز پڑھ دیں تو میں اسے ہی اپنے لئے جائے نماز منتخب کر لوں، نبی ﷺ نے مجھ سے ایسا کرنے کا وعدہ کر لیا، چنانچہ ایک دن سیدنا ابوبکر و عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ نبی ﷺ تشریف لے آئے، انصار کے کانوں تک یہ بات پہنچی تو وہ نبی ﷺ کی زیارت کے لئے آنے لگے، لیکن ایک آدمی " جس کا نام مالک بن وخش تھا " آنے سے رہ گیا اور لوگ اس پر نفاق کا طعنہ اور الزام پہلے ہی سے لگاتے تھے۔ لوگ کھانے کے وقت تک رکے رہے اور آپس میں باتیں کرنے لگے، باتوں باتوں میں وہ کہنے لگے کہ اسے پتہ بھی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ ہمارے یہاں تشریف لائے ہیں لیکن وہ محض اپنے نفاق کی وجہ سے ہی پیچھے رہ گیا ہے، اس وقت نبی ﷺ نماز پڑھ رہے تھے، نماز سے فارغ ہو کر فرمانے لگے افسوس! کیا وہ خلوص جل کے ساتھ " لا الہ اللہ " کی گواہی نہیں دیتا؟ جو شخص اس کلمے کی گواہی دیتا ہے، اللہ نے اس پر جہنم کی آگ حرام قرار دے دی ہے۔

Sayyidna Utbah RA se marvi hai ki ek martaba main Nabi SAW ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur arz kiya: ki meri nazar kamzor hai aur mere aur aap ke darmiyaan yeh wadi aur zulmat bhi hail hai, aap kisi waqt tashreef la kar mere ghar mein namaz parh dain to main use hi apne liye jaye namaz muntakhib kar lun, Nabi SAW ne mujh se aisa karne ka wada kar liya, chunancha ek din Sayyidna Abubakar o Umar RA ke sath Nabi SAW tashreef le aaye, Ansar ke kaano tak yeh baat pahunchi to woh Nabi SAW ki ziyarat ke liye aane lage, lekin ek aadmi " jis ka naam Malik bin Vakhsh tha " aane se reh gaya aur log us par nifaq ka taana aur ilzaam pehle hi se lagaate the. Log khane ke waqt tak ruke rahe aur aapas mein baatein karne lage, baaton baaton mein woh kehne lage ki use pata bhi hai ki Nabi SAW hamare yahan tashreef laaye hain lekin woh mahaz apne nifaq ki wajah se hi peechhe reh gaya hai, is waqt Nabi SAW namaz parh rahe the, namaz se farigh ho kar farmane lage afsos! kya woh khuloos jal ke sath " la ilaha illallah " ki gawahi nahin deta? jo shakhs is kalme ki gawahi deta hai, Allah ne us par jahannam ki aag haram karar de di hai.

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، أَوْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ مَحْمُودٍ شَكَّ يَزِيدُ، عَنْ عِتْبَانَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي رَجُلٌ ضَرِيرُ الْبَصَرِ، وَبَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ هَذَا الْوَادِي وَالظُّلْمَةُ، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ فَيُصَلِّيَ فِي بَيْتِي، فَأَتَّخِذُ مُصَلَّاهُ مُصَلًّى، فَوَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَفْعَلَ، فَجَاءَ هُوَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ، فَتَسَامَعَتْ بِهِ الْأَنْصَارُ، فَأَتَوْهُ، وَتَخَلَّفَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُنِ، وَكَانَ يُزَنُّ بِالنِّفَاقِ، فَاحُتَبَسُوا عَلَى طَعَامٍ، فَتَذَاكَرُوا بَيْنَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: مَا تَخَلَّفَ عَنَّا وَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَارَنَا إِلَّا لِنِفَاقِهِ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ:" وَيْحَهُ، أَمَا شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ بِهَا مُخْلِصًا، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَرَّمَ النَّارَ عَلَى مَنْ شَهِدَ بِهَا".

It is narrated by Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and I said: "O Messenger of Allah! There is a flood between my people's mosque and me. If you would come and pray in my house sometime, I would choose that as my place of prayer." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) promised me that he would do so. So, one day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came with Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). He entered the house and said, "Where do you want to make the place of prayer?" I pointed to a corner of the house. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up, we lined up behind him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led us in two rak'ahs of prayer. We stopped the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for a meal. When the Ansar heard about it, they started coming to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the whole house was filled. One man said, "Where is Malik bin Dakhshum?" Another replied, "He is a hypocrite." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not say that. He recites 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god but Allah) seeking the pleasure of Allah." He said, "We see that his attention and words are inclined towards the hypocrites." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) repeated the same sentence. Another man said, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whoever comes on the Day of Judgment testifying to 'La ilaha illallah' seeking the pleasure of Allah, Allah has forbidden the fire of Hell for him." Mahmud says, "When I narrated this hadith in front of a group, which included Ayub, he said, 'I don't think the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that.'" I said, "When I reach Madinah, and if Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) is still alive, I will definitely ask him about this hadith." So, when I reached there, he had become blind, and he was leading his people in prayer. I asked him about this hadith. He narrated the hadith to me as he had narrated it before, and this is from Badri Sahabi.

سیدنا عتبان رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ﷺ ! میری قوم کی مسجد اور میرے درمیان سیلاب حائل ہو جاتا ہے، آپ کسی وقت تشریف لا کر میرے گھر میں نماز پڑھ دیں تو میں اسے ہی اپنے لئے جائے نماز منتخب کر لوں، نبی ﷺ نے مجھ سے ایسا کرنے کا وعدہ کر لیا، چنانچہ ایک دن سیدنا ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ نبی ﷺ تشریف لے آئے اور گھر میں داخل ہو کر فرمایا: تم کس جگہ کو جائے نماز بنانا چاہتے ہو؟ میں نے گھر کے ایک کونے کی طرف اشارہ کر دیا، نبی ﷺ کھڑے ہو گئے، ہم نے ان کے پیچھے صف بندی کر لی اور نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں دو رکعتیں پڑھائیں، ہم نے نبی ﷺ کر یم صلی اللہ علیہ کو کھانے پر روک لیا، انصار کے کانوں تک یہ بات پہنچی تو وہ نبی ﷺ کی زیارت کے لئے آنے لگے، سارا گھر بھر گیا، ایک آدمی کہنے لگا کہ مالک بن دخشم کہاں ہے؟ دوسرے نے جواب دیا کہ وہ منافق ہے، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ایسے نہ کہو، وہ اللہ کی رضا کے لئے لا الہ الا اللہ پڑھتا ہے، اس نے کہا کہ ہم تو یہی دیکھتے ہیں کہ اس کی توجہ اور باتیں منافقین کی طرف مائل ہو تی ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے پھر وہی جملہ دہرایا، دوسرے آدمی نے کہا کیوں نہیں یا رسول اللہ! ﷺ ! اس پر نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: جو شخص اللہ کی رضا کے لئے لا الہ الا اللہ کی گواہی دیتا ہوا قیامت کے دن آئے گا، اللہ نے اس پر جہنم کی آگ کو حرام قرار دیا ہے، محمود کہتے ہیں کہ یہ حدیث جب میں نے ایک جماعت کے سامنے بیان کی جن میں ایوب بھی تھے، تو وہ کہنے لگے میں نہیں سمجھتا کہ نبی ﷺ نے یہ فرمایا: ہو گا، میں نے کہا کہ جس وقت میں مدینہ منورہ پہنچا اور سیدنا عتبان رضی اللہ عنہ زندہ ہوئے تو میں ان سے یہ سوال ضرور کر وں گا، چنانچہ میں وہاں پہنچا تو وہ نابینا ہو چکے تھے اور اپنی قوم کی امامت فرماتے تھے، میں نے ان سے اس حدیث کے متعلق پوچھا: تو انہوں مجھے یہ حدیث اس طرح سنا دی جیسے پہلے سنائی تھی اور یہ بدری صحابی تھے۔

Sayyiduna Utbah RA se marvi hai ki ek martaba main Nabi SAW ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur arz kiya Ya Rasul Allah SAW meri qaum ki masjid aur mere darmiyaan seilab ha'il ho jata hai aap kisi waqt tashrif la kar mere ghar mein namaz padh dein to main ise hi apne liye jaye namaz muntakhib kar lun Nabi SAW ne mujh se aisa karne ka wada kar liya chunancha ek din Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq RA ke sath Nabi SAW tashrif le aaye aur ghar mein dakhil ho kar farmaya tum kis jagah ko jaye namaz banana chahte ho main ne ghar ke ek kone ki taraf ishara kar diya Nabi SAW khade ho gaye hum ne un ke peeche saf bandi kar li aur Nabi SAW ne hamein do rakaaten padhayi hum ne Nabi SAW ko khane par rok liya Ansar ke kanon tak yeh baat pahunchi to woh Nabi SAW ki ziyarat ke liye aane lage sara ghar bhar gaya ek aadmi kahne laga ki Malik bin Dakhshum kahan hai dusre ne jawab diya ki woh munafiq hai Nabi SAW ne farmaya aise na kaho woh Allah ki raza ke liye La Ilaha Illallah padhta hai usne kaha ki hum to yahi dekhte hain ki uski tawajjuh aur baaten munafiqeen ki taraf mail hoti hain Nabi SAW ne phir wohi jumla dohraaya dusre aadmi ne kaha kyun nahi Ya Rasul Allah SAW us par Nabi SAW ne farmaya jo shakhs Allah ki raza ke liye La Ilaha Illallah ki gawahi deta hua qayamat ke din aaye ga Allah ne us par jahannam ki aag ko haram karar diya hai Mahmud kahte hain ki yeh hadees jab main ne ek jamaat ke samne bayan ki jin mein Ayyub bhi the to woh kahne lage main nahin samajhta ki Nabi SAW ne yeh farmaya hoga main ne kaha ki jis waqt main Madina Munawwara pahuncha aur Sayyiduna Utbah RA zinda hue to main un se yeh sawal zaroor karun ga chunancha main wahan pahuncha to woh nabina ho chuke the aur apni qaum ki imamat farmate the main ne un se is hadees ke mutalliq poocha to unhon mujhe yeh hadees is tarah suna di jaise pehle sunaai thi aur yeh badri sahabi the.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، عَنْ عِتْبَانَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ السُّيُولَ تَحُولُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ مَسْجِدِ قَوْمِي، فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي، فَتُصَلِّيَ فِي مَكَانٍ فِي بَيْتِي أَتَّخِذُهُ مَسْجِدًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" سَنَفْعَلُ"، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَدَا عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَاسْتَتْبَعَهُ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ؟" فَأَشَرْتُ لَهُ إِلَى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَصُفِفْنَا خَلْفَهُ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَحَبَسْنَاهُ عَلَى خَزِيرٍ صَنَعْنَاهُ، فَسَمِعَ أَهْلُ الدَّارِ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الْقَرْيَةِ، فَجَعَلُوا يَثُوبُونَ، فَامْتَلَأَ الْبَيْتُ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: أَيْنَ مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُمِ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: ذَاكَ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" لَا تَقُولُهُ يَقُولُ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَبْتَغِي بِهَا وَجْهَ اللَّهِ"، قَالَ: أَمَّا نَحْنُ فَنَرَى وَجْهَهُ وَحَدِيثَهُ إِلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" لَا تَقُولُهُ، يَقُولُ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ"، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: بَلَى، يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" لَئِنْ وَافَى عَبْدٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَقُولُ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا حَرِّمَ عَلَى النَّار"، فَقَالَ مَحْمُودٌ: فَحَدَّثْتُ بِذَلِكَ قَوْمًا فِيهِمْ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: مَا أَظُنُّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ هَذَا، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: لَئِنْ رَجَعْتُ وَعِتْبَانُ حَيٌّ لَأَسْأَلَنَّهُ، فَقَدِمْتُ وَهُوَ أَعْمَى، وَهُوَ إِمَامُ قَوْمِهِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَحَدَّثَنِي كَمَا حَدَّثَنِي أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ، وَكَانَ عِتْبَانُ بَدْرِيًّا.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، عَنْ عِتْبَانَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنِّي قَدْ أَنْكَرْتُ بَصَرِي، فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُنِ، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: الدُّخَيْشِنِ، وَقَالَ:" حُرِّمَ عَلَى النَّارِ"، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ كَانَ بَدْرِيًّا.

Abu Bakr bin Anas said: My father came back from Syria, and I was with him, and we met Mahmud bin Rabia. He narrated to my father a hadith, referring to Utbah bin Abd as-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him). My father said: Son! Memorize this hadith because it is a treasure of knowledge. On our return, when we reached Madinah, we asked Utbah about it while he was still alive, though very old and blind. He said: Yes!

ابوبکر بن انس کہتے ہیں کہ میرے والد صاحب شام سے واپس آئے، میں ان کے ہمراہ تھا، تو ہماری ملاقات محمود بن ربیع سے ہو گئی انہوں نے میرے والد صاحب کو سیدنا عتبان رضی اللہ عنہ کے حوالے سے حدیث سنائی والد صاحب نے فرمایا: بیٹے! اس حدیث کو یاد کر لو کہ یہ حدیث کا خزانہ ہے واپسی پر جب ہم مدینہ منورہ پہنچے تو ہم نے سیدنا عتبان رضی اللہ عنہ سے اس کے متعلق پوچھا کہ وہ اس وقت حیات تھے لیکن انتہائی بوڑھے اور نابینا ہو چکے تھے، انہوں نے فرمایا: ہاں!

Abu Bakr bin Anas kehty hain k merey walid sahab Sham se wapas aaye, main un k hamrah tha, tou hamari mulaqat Mahmood bin Rabia se ho gayi unhon ne merey walid sahab ko Sayyiduna Utbah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) k hawale se hadees sunaai walid sahab ne farmaya: Bete! is hadees ko yaad kar lo k yeh hadees ka khazanah hai wapsi par jab hum Madina Munawwarah pahunche tou hum ne Sayyiduna Utbah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se is k mutalliq poocha k woh is waqt hayat thay lakin intehai budhey aur nabina ho chuke thay, unhon ne farmaya: Haan!.

حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ: قَدِمَ أَبِي مِنَ الشَّامِ وَافِدًا وَأَنَا مَعَهُ، فَلَقْينَا مَحْمُودَ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ ، فَحَدَّثَ أَبِي حَدِيثًا، عَنْ عِتْبَانَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ أَبِي : أَيْ بُنَيَّ، احْفَظْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْحَدِيثِ، فَلَمَّا قَفَلْنَا انْصَرَفْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَسَأَلْنَا عَنْهُ، فَإِذَا هُوَ حَيٌّ، وَإِذَا شَيْخٌ أَعْمَى، قَالَ: فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَنِ الْحَدِيثِ، فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، ذَهَبَ بَصَرِي عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ذَهَبَ بَصَرِي، وَلَا أَسْتَطِيعُ الصَّلَاةَ خَلْفَكَ، فَلَوْ بَوَّأْتَ فِي دَارِي مَسْجِدًا فَصَلَّيْتَ فِيهِ، فَأَتَّخِذُهُ مُصَلًّى، قَالَ:" نَعَمْ، فَإِنِّي غَادٍ عَلَيْكَ غَدًا"، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا صَلَّى مِنَ الْغَدِ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَامَ حَتَّى أَتَاهُ، فَقَالَ:" يَا عِتْبَانُ، أَيْنَ تُحِبُّ أَنْ أُبَوِّئَ لَكَ؟" فَوَصَفَ لَهُ مَكَانًا، فَبَوَّأَ لَهُ، وَصَلَّى فِيهِ، ثُمَّ حُبَسَ، أَوْ جَلَسَ وَبَلَغَ مَنَ حَوْلَنَا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَجَاءُوا حَتَّى مُلِئَتْ عَلَيْنَا الدَّارُ، فَذَكَرُوا الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَمَا يَلْقُونَ مِنْ أَذَاهِمْ وَشَرِّهِمْ حَتَّى صَيَّرُوا أَمْرَهُمْ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: مَالِكُ بْنُ الدُّخْشُمِ، وَقَالُوا: مِنْ حَالِهِ وَمِنْ حَالِهِ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاكِتٌ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرُوا، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" أَلَيْسَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ؟" فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، قَالُوا: إِنَّهُ لَيَقُولُهُ، قَالَ:" وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ لَئِنْ قَالَهَا صَادِقًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ لَا تَأْكُلُهُ النَّارُ أَبَدًا"، قَالُ: فَمَا فَرِحُوا بِشَيْءٍ قَطُّ كَفَرَحِهِمْ بِمَا قَالَ.
