Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 11186
Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed I'tikaf in the middle third of Ramadan. We too observed I'tikaf with him. When it was the morning of the twentieth, and we were moving our luggage, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by us and said: He who was observing I'tikaf should stick to his place of I'tikaf, for I had been shown the Night of Destiny (Lailat al-Qadr) and then forgot it, but I have been shown that I was prostrating myself in mud on that night. So look for it in the last ten nights, and look for it on the ninth, the seventh, the fifth night (from the end of Ramadan). It rained that night and the roof of the mosque dripped as it was made of stalks of date-palm trees. By Him in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, I saw the trace of mud on the forehead and the tip of the nose of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the morning of the twenty-first.

حضرت ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے رمضان کے درمیانی عشرے کا اعتکاف فرمایا: ہم نے بھی آپ ﷺ کے ساتھ اعتکاف کیا، جب بیسویں تاریخ کی صبح ہوئی تو نبی ﷺ ہمارے پاس سے گذرے، ہم اس وقت اپنا سامان منتقل کر رہے تھے، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا جو شخص معتکف تھا وہ اب بھی اپنے اعتکاف میں رہے، میں نے شب قدر کو دیکھ لیا تھا لیکن پھر مجھے اس کی تعیین بھلا دی گئی، البتہ اس رات میں نے اپنے آپ کو کیچڑ میں سجدہ کرتے ہوئے دیکھا تھا، اسے آخری عشرے کی طاق راتوں میں تلاش کرو، اس زمانے میں مسجد نبوی کی چھت لکڑی کی تھی، اسی رات بارش ہوئی اور اس ذات کی قسم جس نے انہیں عزت بخشی اور ان پر اپنی کتاب نازل فرمائی، میں نے دیکھا کہ نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں اکیسویں شب کو نماز مغرب پڑھائی تو ان کی ناک اور پیشانی پر کیچڑ کے نشان پڑگئے ہیں
Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri Razi Allah Anhu se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Ramzan ke darmiyani ashre ka aitekaf farmaya: hum ne bhi aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath aitekaf kiya, jab beeswein tareekh ki subah hui to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) humare pass se guzre, hum us waqt apna saman muntaqil kar rahe the, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya jo shakhs motekif tha wo ab bhi apne aitekaf mein rahe, maine Shab e Qadr ko dekh liya tha lekin phir mujhe iski tayeen bhula di gayi, albatta is raat mein ne apne aap ko keechad mein Sajda karte huye dekha tha, ise aakhri ashre ki taaq raaton mein talaash karo, is zamane mein Masjid e Nabvi ki chhat lakdi ki thi, isi raat baarish hui aur is zaat ki qasam jisne inhen izzat bakhshi aur in par apni kitab nazil farmai, maine dekha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne humein ikkiswein shab ko namaz e Maghrib parhayi to unki naak aur peshani par keechad ke nishan par gaye hain.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ: تَذَاكَرْنَا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ: إِنَّهَا تَدُورُ مِنَ السَّنَةِ، فَمَشَيْنَا إِلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ ، سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعَشْرَ الْوَسَطَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، وَاعْتَكَفْنَا مَعَهُ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْنَا صَبِيحَةَ عِشْرِينَ رَجَعَ، وَرَجَعْنَا مَعَهُ، وَأُرِيَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ، ثُمَّ أُنْسِيَهَا، فَقَالَ:" إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ، ثُمَّ أُنْسِيتُهَا، فَأُرَانِي أَسْجُدُ فِي مَاءٍ وَطِينٍ، فَمَنْ اعْتَكَفَ مَعِي فَلْيَرْجِعْ إِلَى مُعْتَكَفِهِ، ابْتَغُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ فِي الْوَتْرِ مِنْهَا" وَهَاجَتْ عَلَيْنَا السَّمَاءُ آخِرَ تِلْكَ الْعَشِيَّةِ، وَكَانَ نِصْفُ الْمَسْجِدِ عَرِيشًا مِنْ جَرِيدٍ، فَوَكَفَ، فَوَالَّذِي هُوَ أَكْرَمَهُ وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابَ لَرَأَيْتُهُ صَلَّى بِنَا صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ لَيْلَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ، وَإِنَّ جَبْهَتَهُ وَأَرْنَبَةَ أَنْفِهِ لَفِي الْمَاءِ وَالطِّينِ.
