Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14205
It is narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fell from a horse onto a branch or trunk of a date palm tree and sprained his foot. We went to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and found him leading the prayer. We joined him and prayed standing. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "The Imam is appointed to be followed, so if he prays standing, then pray standing, and if he prays sitting, then pray sitting. And if he is sitting, then do not stand as the Persians do with their kings and elders."

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ گھوڑے سے گر کر کھجور کی ایک شاخ یا تنے پر گرگئے اور پاؤں میں موچ آگئی ہم لوگ نبی ﷺ کی عیادت کے لئے تشریف لے گئے تو وہاں آپ کو نماز پڑھاتے ہوئے دیکھا ہم بھی اس میں شریک ہوئے اور کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھی نبی ﷺ نے نماز سے فارغ ہو کر فرمایا: امام کو تو مقرر ہی اس لئے کیا جاتا ہے کہ اس کی اقتداء کی جائے اس لئے اگر وہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھے تو تم بھی کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھو اگر وہ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھے تو تم بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھو اگر وہ بیٹھا ہو تو تم کھڑے نہ رہا کر و جیسا کہ اہل فارس اپنے روساء اور بڑوں کے ساتھ کرتے ہیں۔
Sayyadna Jaber Radi Allaho Anho se marvi hai keh aik martaba Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ghoray se gir kar khajoor ki aik shakh ya tanay par gir gaye aur paon mein moch aa gayi hum log Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ki ayadat ke liye tashreef le gaye to wahan aap ko namaz parhate huye dekha hum bhi us mein sharik huye aur kharay ho kar namaz parhi Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ne namaz se farigh ho kar farmaya: Imam ko to muqarrar hi is liye kiya jata hai keh us ki iqtida ki jaye is liye agar woh kharay ho kar namaz parhay to tum bhi kharay ho kar namaz parho agar woh baith kar namaz parhay to tum bhi baith kar namaz parho agar woh baitha ho to tum kharay na raha karo jaisa keh ahl Faris apne rusa aur baron ke sath karte hain.
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ: صُرِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ فَرَسٍ عَلَى جِذْعِ نَخْلَةٍ، فَانْفَكَّتْ قَدَمُهُ، فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ نَعُودُهُ، فَوَجَدْنَاهُ يُصَلِّي، فَصَلَّيْنَا بِصَلَاتِهِ وَنَحْنُ قِيَامٌ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى، قَالَ:" إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَإِنْ صَلَّى قَائِمًا، فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِنْ صَلَّى جَالِسًا، فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا، وَلَا تَقُومُوا وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ كَمَا يَفْعَلُ أَهْلُ فَارِسٍ بِعُظَمَائِهَا".
