Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14246
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): “The Zuhr prayer is like its name (meaning its time is when the sun is at its zenith). The Asr prayer is named after the sun being bright and fresh. The Maghrib prayer is also like its name (meaning its time is at sunset). We used to return to our homes after praying Maghrib with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from a distance of one mile, and we could still see the place where the arrow had fallen (indicating it wasn't completely dark yet). And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would sometimes offer the Isha prayer early and sometimes late. And the Fajr prayer is also like its name (meaning its time is at dawn), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray Fajr when it was still dark."

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نماز ظہر اپنے نام کی طرح ہے، نماز عصر سورج کے روشن اور تازہ دم ہونے کا نام ہے، نماز مغرب بھی اپنے نام کی طرح ہے، ہم لوگ نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ نماز مغرب پڑھ کر ایک میل کے فاصلے پر اپنے گھروں کو واپس لوٹتے تھے تو ہمیں تیر گرنے کی جگہ دکھائی دیتی تھی، اور نبی ﷺ نماز عشاء کبھی جلدی اور کبھی تاخیر سے ادا فرماتے تھے، اور نماز فجر بھی اپنے نام کی طرح ہی ہے، اور نبی ﷺ نماز فجر منہ اندھیرے پڑھتے تھے۔
Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki namaz Zuhr apne naam ki tarah hai, namaz Asr suraj ke roshan aur taaza dum hone ka naam hai, namaz Maghrib bhi apne naam ki tarah hai, hum log Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath namaz Maghrib parh kar ek meel ke faasle par apne gharon ko wapas laut te the to humein teer girne ki jagah dikhai deti thi, aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) namaz Isha kabhi jaldi aur kabhi takheer se ada farmate the, aur namaz Fajr bhi apne naam ki tarah hi hai, aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) namaz Fajr munh andhere parhte the.
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ: الظُّهْرُ كَاسْمِهَا، وَالْعَصْرُ بَيْضَاءُ حَيَّةٌ، وَالْمَغْرِبُ كَاسْمِهَا، وَكُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَغْرِبَ، ثُمَّ نَأْتِي مَنَازِلَنَا وَهِيَ عَلَى قَدْرِ مِيلٍ، فَنَرَى مَوَاقِعَ النَّبْلِ، وَكَانَ يُعَجِّلُ الْعِشَاءَ وَيُؤَخِّرُ، وَالْفَجْرُ كَاسْمِهَا، وَكَانَ يُغَلِّسُ بِهَا.
