Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14518
Saeed bin Harith narrates: Once we visited Jabir ibn Abdullah who was offering prayer wrapped in a single cloth while another cloth was lying so close to him that he could have easily reached it if he wanted. When he finished the prayer, we asked him about it. He said, “I did this so that even fools like you could see it and convey Jabir’s example to the people – the leniency that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had granted.” He further said, “Once I went on a journey with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At night, I came to him while he was offering prayer wrapped in a single cloth. I also had only one cloth on me, so I wrapped myself in it and stood next to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, ‘Jabir, what kind of wrapping is this?’ I replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have only one cloth.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Jabir, when you are about to pray and you have only one cloth that is loose, wrap yourself properly in it. And if it is tight, then make it into a lower garment (izar).’”

سعید بن حارث کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ ہم لوگ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کے یہاں گئے وہ ایک کپڑے میں لپٹ کر نماز پڑھ رہے تھے حالانکہ دوسری چادر ان کے اتنے قریب پڑی ہوئی تھی کہ اگر وہ ہاتھ بڑھا کر اسے پکڑنا چاہتے تو ان کا ہاتھ باآسانی پہنچ جاتا جب انہوں نے سلام پھیرا تو ہم نے ان سے یہی مسئلہ پوچھا: انہوں نے فرمایا کہ میں نے یہ اس لئے کیا ہے کہ تم جیسے احمق بھی دیکھ لیں اور جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کے حوالے سے وہ رخصت لوگوں میں پھیلا دیں جو نبی ﷺ نے دے رکھی ہے پھر فرمایا کہ ایک مرتبہ میں نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ کسی سفر پر نکلا میں رات کے وقت نبی ﷺ کے پاس آیا تو آپ ایک کپڑے میں نماز پڑھ رہے تھے میرے جسم پر بھی ایک ہی کپڑا تھا اس لئے میں بھی اسے جسم پر لپیٹ کر نبی ﷺ کے پہلو میں کھڑا ہو گیا نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: جابر رضی اللہ عنہ یہ کیسالپٹنا ہے؟ جب تم نماز پڑھنے لگو اور تمہارے اوپر ایک ہی کپڑا ہوا اور وہ کشادہ ہو تو اسے خوب اچھی طرح لپیٹ لو اور اگر تنگ ہو تو اس کا تہنبد بنا لو۔
Saeed bin Haris kehte hain ki aik martaba hum log Sayyidna Jaber (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke yahan gaye woh aik kapre mein lipat kar namaz parh rahe the halanki dusri chadar unke itne qareeb pari hui thi ki agar woh hath barha kar use pakarna chahte toh unka hath ba asani pahunch jata jab unhon ne salam phera toh humne unse yahi masla poocha: unhon ne farmaya ki maine yeh isliye kiya hai ki tum jaise ahmaq bhi dekh len aur Jaber (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke hawale se woh rukhsat logon mein phela den jo Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne de rakhi hai phir farmaya ki aik martaba mein Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath kisi safar par nikla mein raat ke waqt Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass aaya toh aap aik kapre mein namaz parh rahe the mere jism par bhi aik hi kapra tha isliye mein bhi use jism par lapet kar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pehlu mein khara ho gaya Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Jaber (رضي الله تعالى عنه) yeh kaisa lapetna hai? Jab tum namaz parhne lago aur tumhare upar aik hi kapra hua aur woh kushada ho toh use khoob achchi tarah lapet lo aur agar tang ho toh uska tahband bana lo.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ مُلْتَحِفًا بِهِ، وَرِدَاؤُهُ قَرِيبٌ لَوْ تَنَاوَلَهُ بَلَغَهُ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ، سَأَلْنَاهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا أَفْعَلُ هَذَا لِيَرَانِي الْحَمْقَى أَمْثَالُكُمْ، فَيُفْشُوا عَلَى جَابِرٍ رُخْصَةً رَخَّصَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ جَابِرٌ: خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ، فَجِئْتُهُ لَيْلَةً وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ وَعَلَيَّ ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ فَاشْتَمَلْتُ بِهِ، ثُمَّ قُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ، قَالَ:" يَا جَابِرُ، مَا هَذَا الِاشْتِمَالُ؟ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ وَعَلَيْكَ ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ، فَإِنْ كَانَ وَاسِعًا، فَالْتَحِفْ بِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ ضَيِّقًا، فَاتَّزِرْ بِهِ".
