Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14902
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to eat the meat of horses, mules, and donkeys at the time of the Battle of Khyber. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade (the eating of the meat of) mules and domesticated donkeys, but he did not forbid (the eating of the meat of) horses.

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ہم لوگوں نے غزوہ خیبر کے زمانے میں گھوڑوں خچروں اور گدھوں کا گوشت کھایا تھا اور نبی ﷺ نے خچروں اور پالتو گدھوں سے منع فرمایا ہے لیکن گھوڑوں سے منع نہیں فرمایا ہے۔
Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki hum logon ne Ghazwah Khyber ke zamane mein ghoron khacharon aur gadhon ka gosht khaya tha aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khacharon aur paltu gadhon se mana farmaya hai lekin ghoron se mana nahin farmaya hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ: ذَبَحْنَا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ الْخَيْلَ، وَالْبِغَالَ، وَالْحَمِيرَ" فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْبِغَالِ وَالْحَمِيرِ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنِ الْخَيْلِ".
