Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14926
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was the habit of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that they would not extend their hands (for shaking) before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did.

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ صحابہ کی عادت یہ تھی کہ نبی ﷺ کے شروع کرنے سے پہلے ہاتھ نہ بڑھاتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُتَوَكِّلِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ " أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَضَعُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِي الطَّعَامِ، حَتَّى يَكُونَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ يَبْدَأُ".
