Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 15156
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with a book he had received from one of the People of the Book. He began to read it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which angered the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said, "O son of Khattab! Do you want to be tempted by this? By the One in whose hand is my soul, I have brought you a clear and straightforward Shari'ah (law). Do not ask these People of the Book about anything, lest they tell you the truth and you reject it, or tell you falsehood and you believe it. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if Musa (Moses) were alive, he would have no choice but to follow me."

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا عمر نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں ایک کتاب لے کر حاضر ہوئے جو انہیں کسی کتابی سے ہاتھ لگی تھی اور نبی ﷺ کے سامنے اسے پڑھنا شروع کر دیا اس پر نبی ﷺ کو غصہ آگیا اور فرمایا کہ اے ابن خطاب کیا تم اس میں گھسنا چاہتے ہواس ذات کی قسم جس کے دست قدرت میں میری جان ہے میں تمہارے پاس ایک ایسی شریعت لے کر آیا ہوں جو روشن اور صاف ستھری ہے تم ان اہل کتاب سے کس چیز کے متعلق سوال نہ کیا کر و اور کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ تمہیں صحیح بات بتائیں اور تم اس کی تکذیب کر و اور غلط بتائیں تو تم اس کی تصدیق کر و اس ذات کی قسم جس کے دست قدرت میں میری جان ہے اگر موسیٰ بھی زندہ ہوتے تو انہیں بھی میری پیروی کے علاوہ کوئی چارہ کار نہ ہوتا۔
Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek martaba Sayyidna Umar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein ek kitab le kar hazir huye jo unhen kisi kitabi se hath lagi thi aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne use padhna shuru kar diya is par Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko ghussa aagaya aur farmaya ki aye ibn kitab kya tum is mein ghusna chahte ho is zaat ki qasam jis ke dast qudrat mein meri jaan hai mein tumhare pas ek aisi shariyat le kar aaya hun jo roshan aur saaf suthri hai tum in ahle kitab se kis cheez ke mutalliq sawal na kya karo aur kahin aisa na ho ki woh tumhen sahih baat bataen aur tum us ki takzeeb karo aur galat bataen to tum us ki tasdeeq karo is zaat ki qasam jis ke dast qudrat mein meri jaan hai agar Musa bhi zinda hote to unhen bhi meri pairvi ke ilawa koi chara kar na hota.
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ , أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ , عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكِتَابٍ أَصَابَهُ مِنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْكُتُبِ , فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَغَضِبَ , وَقَالَ:" أَمُتَهَوِّكُونَ فِيهَا يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ , وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ , لَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِهَا بَيْضَاءَ نَقِيَّةً , لَا تَسْأَلُوهُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَيُخْبِرُوكُمْ بِحَقٍّ فَتُكَذِّبُوا بِهِ , أَوْ بِبَاطِلٍ فَتُصَدِّقُوا بِهِ , وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ , لَوْ أَنَّ مُوسَى كَانَ حَيًّا , مَا وَسِعَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَّبِعَنِي".
