The Hadith of Tamam ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1835
Narrated by Sayyiduna Tammam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: “What is the matter? I see your teeth are yellow. Brush your teeth, if I did not fear hardship upon my Ummah, I would have made miswak (brushing) obligatory upon them just as I made wudu (ablution) obligatory.”

سیدنا تمام بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں کچھ لوگ حاضر ہوئے، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے فرمایا: ”کیا بات ہے، مجھے تمہارے دانت پیلے زرد دکھائی دے رہے ہیں؟ مسواک کیا کرو، اگر مجھے اپنی امت پر دشواری کا احساس نہ ہوتا تو میں ان پر مسواک کو اسی طرح فرض قرار دے دیتا جیسے وضو کو فرض قرار دیا ہے۔“
Sayyidna tamam bin abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein kuch log hazir hue, nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne un se farmaya: ”kia baat hai, mujhe tumhare daant peele zard dikhayi de rahe hain? Miswak kia karo, agar mujhe apni ummat par dushwari ka ehsas na hota to main un par miswak ko isi tarah farz qarar de deta jaise wuzu ko farz qarar dia hai.“
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الزَّرَّادِ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ تَمَّامِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ: أَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ أُتِيَ، فَقَالَ:" مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا؟ اسْتَاكُوا، لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي، لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ الْوُضُوءَ".
