The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1985
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Fast upon sighting the crescent moon and celebrate Eid al-Fitr upon sighting the crescent moon. If clouds obstruct your view of the moon, then complete thirty days and do not start the new month."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”چاند دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو اور چاند دیکھ کر عید الفطر مناؤ، اگر تمہارے اور چاند کے درمیان بادل حائل ہو جائیں تو تیس کا عدد پورا کرو اور نیا مہینہ شروع نہ کرو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya: “Chand dekh kar roza rakho aur chand dekh kar Eid-ul-Fitr manao, agar tumhare aur chand ke darmiyan badal hail ho jayen to tees ka adad poora karo aur naya mahina shuru na karo.”
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ سَحَابٌ فَكَمِّلُوا الْعِدَّةَ ثَلَاثِينَ، وَلَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الشَّهْرَ اسْتِقْبَالًا" قَالَ حَاتِمٌ يَعْنِي: عِدَّةَ شَعْبَانَ.
