Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 20091
It is narrated by Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) what is meant by "Salat-ul-Wusta" (the middle prayer)? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The afternoon prayer (Asr)."

حضرت سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ سے کسی نے پوچھا کہ " صلوۃ وسطی " سے کیا مراد ہے؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا نماز عصر۔
Hazrat Samra (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki aik martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se kisi ne poocha ki "Salatul Wusta" se kya murad hai? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya Namaz Asr.
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ , وَعَفَّانُ , قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ : أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ سورة البقرة آية 238 قَالَ عَفَّانُ: الصَّلَاةِ وَالصَّلاةِ الْوُسْطَى سورة البقرة آية 238 , وَسَمَّاهَا لَنَا:" إِنَّمَا هِيَ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ" .
