The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2022
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was finished with the Battle of Badr, someone said to him, "Now let's go after the caravan of Quraysh, there is no obstacle to reach it now." Upon hearing this, 'Abbas (who had not yet embraced Islam) cried out and said, "This is not appropriate for you." He was asked, "Why?" So he said, "Allah had promised you one of the two groups, and He has given you that."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ جب نبی ﷺ غزوہ بدر سے فارغ ہوئے تو کسی نے نبی ﷺ سے عرض کیا کہ اب قریش کے قافلہ کے پیچھے چلئے، اس تک پہنچنے کے لئے اب کوئی رکاوٹ نہیں ہے، یہ سن کر عباس نے - جو اس وقت تک مسلمان نہیں ہوئے تھے - پکار کر کہا کہ یہ آپ کے لئے مناسب نہیں ہے، پوچھا کیوں؟ تو انہوں نے کہا کہ اللہ نے آپ سے دو میں سے کسی ایک گروہ کا وعدہ کیا تھا اور وہ اس نے آپ کو دے دیا۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki jab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Ghazwah Badr se farigh huye to kisi ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se arz kiya ki ab Quresh ke qafile ke peeche chaliye, is tak pahunchne ke liye ab koi rukawat nahi hai, yeh sunkar Abbas ne - jo is waqt tak musalman nahi huye the - pukar kar kaha ki yeh aap ke liye munasib nahi hai, poocha kyun? To unhon ne kaha ki Allah ne aap se do mein se kisi ek giroh ka waada kiya tha aur wo usne aap ko de diya.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ:" قِيلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ فَرَغَ مِنْ بَدْرٍ، عَلَيْكَ الْعِيرَ لَيْسَ دُونَهَا شَيْءٌ، قَالَ: فَنَادَاهُ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ: إِنَّهُ لَا يَصْلُحُ لَكَ، قَالَ:" وَلِمَ" , قَالَ: لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِنَّمَا وَعَدَكَ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ، وَقَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ.
