The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2127
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), when Sayyiduna 'Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, a woman said, "O 'Uthman, may Paradise be blessed for you!" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at her angrily and said, "How do you know?" She replied, "O Messenger of Allah, he was your companion and rider." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "By Allah, I do not know what will happen to me, even though I am the Messenger of Allah." Hearing this, people became afraid regarding Sayyiduna 'Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him). But when the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) eldest daughter, Sayyida Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Go and meet 'Uthman bin Maz'un, the best of our companions who has gone ahead." (This proved that he was in Paradise). Upon this, the women began to weep. Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) started hitting them with a whip. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) held his hand and said, "'Umar, stop!" Then he said to the women, "You are allowed to cry, but save yourselves from the wailing of Satan." Then he said, "As long as it is a matter of the eye and the heart, it is from Allah and is a cause of mercy. But when the hand and the tongue are involved, it is from Satan."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ جب سیدنا عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ کا انتقال ہوا تو ایک خاتون کہنے لگی کہ عثمان! تمہیں جنت مبارک ہو، نبی ﷺ نے اس خاتون کی طرف غصے بھری نگاہوں سے دیکھا اور فرمایا: ”تمہیں کیسے پتہ چلا؟“ اس نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! یہ آپ کے شہسوار اور ساتھی تھے (اس لئے مرنے کے بعد جنت ہی میں جائیں گے)، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”واللہ! مجھے اللہ کا پیغمبر ہونے کے باوجود معلوم نہیں ہے کہ میرے ساتھ کیا ہوگا“، یہ سن کر لوگ سیدنا عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ کے بارے ڈر گئے لیکن جب نبی ﷺ کی بڑی صاحبزادی سیدہ زینب رضی اللہ عنہا کا انتقال ہوا تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”ہمارے آگے جانے والے بہترین ساتھی عثمان بن مظعون سے جا ملو“ (جس سے ان کا جنتی ہونا ثابت ہوگیا)۔ اس پر عورتیں رونے لگیں، سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ انہیں کوڑوں سے مارنے لگے، نبی ﷺ نے ان کا ہاتھ پکڑ لیا اور فرمایا: ”عمر! رک جاؤ“، پھر خواتین سے فرمایا کہ ”تمہیں رونے کی اجازت ہے لیکن شیطان کی چیخ و پکار سے اپنے آپ کو بچاؤ“، پھر فرمایا کہ ”جب تک یہ آنکھ اور دل کا معاملہ رہے تو اللہ کی طرف سے ہوتا ہے اور باعث رحمت ہوتا ہے اور جب ہاتھ اور زبان تک نوبت پہنچ جائے تو یہ شیطان کی طرف سے ہوتا ہے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki jab Sayyidna Usman bin Mazoon (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ka intiqal hua to ek khatoon kahne lagi ki Usman! tumhen jannat mubarak ho, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne is khatoon ki taraf ghusse bhari nigaahon se dekha aur farmaya: ”tumhen kaise pata chala?“ isne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah! yeh aap ke shahsawar aur saathi the (is liye marne ke baad jannat hi mein jayenge), Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Wallahi! mujhe Allah ka paighambar hone ke bawajood maloom nahin hai ki mere saath kya hoga“, yeh sun kar log Sayyidna Usman bin Mazoon (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke bare dar gaye lekin jab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki badi sahibzadi Sayyida Zainab ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ka intiqal hua to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”humare aage jaane wale behtarin saathi Usman bin Mazoon se ja milo“ (jis se un ka jannati hona sabit hogaya). is par auraten rone lagi, Sayyidna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) unhen koodon se marne lage, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne un ka haath pakad liya aur farmaya: ”Umar! ruk jao“, phir khawateen se farmaya ki ”tumhen rone ki ijazat hai lekin shaitan ki chikh o pukar se apne aap ko bachao“, phir farmaya ki ”jab tak yeh aankh aur dil ka mamla rahe to Allah ki taraf se hota hai aur baais rehmat hota hai aur jab haath aur zaban tak nobat pahunch jaye to yeh shaitan ki taraf se hota hai.“.
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا مَاتَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ، قَالَتْ امْرَأَةٌ: هَنِيئًا لَكَ الْجَنَّةُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ , فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهَا نَظَرَ غَضْبَانَ، فَقَالَ:" وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ؟" , قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَارِسُكَ وَصَاحِبُكَ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم:" وَاللَّهِ , إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ , وَمَا أَدْرِي مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي" , فَأَشْفَقَ النَّاسُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ، فَلَمَّا مَاتَتْ زَيْنَبُ , ابْنَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" الْحَقِي بِسَلَفِنَا الصَّالِحِ الْخَيْرِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ" , فَبَكَتْ النِّسَاءُ، فَجَعَلَ عُمَرُ يَضْرِبُهُنَّ بِسَوْطِهِ، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ، وَقَالَ:" مَهْلًا يَا عُمَرُ" , ثُمَّ قَالَ:" ابْكِينَ , وَإِيَّاكُنَّ وَنَعِيقَ الشَّيْطَانِ" , ثُمَّ قَالَ:" إِنَّهُ مَهْمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ وَالْقَلْبِ، فَمِنْ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَمِنْ الرَّحْمَةِ، وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْيَدِ وَاللِّسَانِ، فَمِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ".
