The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2154
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Fast on the day of Ashura, but oppose the Jews in it, and that is by fasting a day before it or a day after it.”

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”عاشورہ کا روزہ رکھا کرو، لیکن اس میں بھی یہودیوں کی مخالفت کیا کرو اور وہ اس طرح کہ اس سے ایک دن پہلے یا بعد کا روزہ بھی ملا لیا کرو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya: “Ashura ka roza rakha karo, lekin is mein bhi yahudiyon ki mukhalifat kiya karo aur wo is tarah ke is se ek din pehle ya baad ka roza bhi mila liya karo.”
حدثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" صُومُوا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، وَخَالِفُوا فِيهِ الْيَهُودَ، صُومُوا قَبْلَهُ يَوْمًا، أَوْ بَعْدَهُ يَوْمًا".
