The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2236
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that before the pulpit was built, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to deliver the sermon leaning on a trunk of a date palm tree. When the pulpit was built and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) moved towards it, the trunk of the date palm tree started crying due to the grief of separation from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took it to his chest and silenced it, so it became quiet. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If I had not silenced it, it would have continued crying until the Day of Judgment."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ منبر بننے سے قبل نبی ﷺ کھجور کے ایک تنے سے ٹیک لگا کر خطبہ ارشاد فرمایا کرتے تھے، جب منبر بن گیا اور نبی ﷺ منبر کی طرف منتقل ہو گئے تو کھجور کا وہ تنا نبی ﷺ کی جدائی کے غم میں رونے لگا، نبی ﷺ نے اسے اپنے سینے سے لگا کر خاموش کرایا تو اسے سکون آ گیا، نبی ﷺ فرمایا: ”اگر میں اسے خاموش نہ کراتا تو یہ قیامت تک روتا ہی رہتا۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki mimbar banne se pahle Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) khajoor ke ek tane se tek laga kar khutba irshad farmaya karte the, jab mimbar ban gaya aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mimbar ki taraf muntaqil ho gaye to khajoor ka wo tana Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki judai ke gham mein rone laga, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne use apne seene se laga kar khamosh karaya to use sukoon aa gaya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) farmaya: ”Agar mein use khamosh na karata to ye qayamat tak rota hi rahta.“.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَانَ يَخْطُبُ إِلَى جِذْعٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ الْمِنْبَرَ، فَلَمَّا اتَّخَذَ الْمِنْبَرَ وَتَحَوَّلَ إِلَيْهِ، حَنَّ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَتَاهُ فَاحْتَضَنَهُ فَسَكَنَ، قَالَ:" لَوْ لَمْ أَحْتَضِنْهُ , لَحَنَّ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ".
