Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 22611
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Qatada (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were traveling with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At night, we requested, "O Messenger of Allah! It would be better if we stopped for a while." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I am afraid that you might fall asleep at the time of prayer. Then who will wake us up for prayer?" Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! I will wake you up." So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stopped and we all lay down. Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) also sat down, leaning against his mount, and he too fell asleep. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up when the sun had already risen. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Bilal! What happened to the promise you made to us?" He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! By Him Who has sent you with the truth, I have never experienced such sleep before." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Allah Almighty kept your souls in His possession as long as He willed and then returned them when He willed." Then he ordered the people and they dispersed for answering the call of nature. They performed ablution and when the sun rose, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in the Fajr prayer.

حضرت ابو قتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ ہم لوگ نبی کریم ﷺ کے ساتھ ایک سفر پر روانہ ہوئے رات کے وقت ہم نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! اگر تھوڑی دیر کے لئے پڑاؤ کرلیں تو بہتر ہوگا نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا مجھے اندیشہ ہے کہ تم نماز کے وقت سوتے رہے تو ہمیں نماز کے لئے کون جگائے گا؟ حضرت بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! میں جگاؤں گا چنانچہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے پڑاؤ کرلیا اور ہم سب لیٹ گئے حضرت بلال رضی اللہ عنہ بھی اپنی سواری سے ٹیک لگا کر بیٹھ گئے اور ان کی آنکھ بھی لگ گئی نبی کریم ﷺ کی آنکھ اس وقت کھلی جب سورج طلوع ہوچکا تھا نبی کریم ﷺ نے حضرت بلال رضی اللہ عنہ کو جگا کر فرمایا بلال! وہ بات کہاں گئی جو تم نے ہم سے کہی تھی؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا ہے مجھ پر ایسی نیند کبھی طاری نہیں ہوئی نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمہاری روحوں کو جب تک چاہا اپنے قبضے میں رکھا اور جب چاہا واپس لوٹا دیا پھر لوگوں کو حکم دیا تو وہ قضا حاجت کے لئے منتشر ہوگئے وضو کیا اور جب سورج بلند ہوگیا تو نبی کریم ﷺ نے انہیں نماز فجر پڑھا دی۔
Hazrat Abu Qatada Raziallahu Anhu se marvi hai ki ek martaba hum log Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath ek safar par rawana huye raat ke waqt humne arz kiya Ya Rasulullah agar thori dair ke liye padav karlen to behtar hoga Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya mujhe andesha hai ki tum namaz ke waqt sote rahe to humein namaz ke liye kaun jagayega Hazrat Bilal Raziallahu Anhu ne arz kiya Ya Rasulullah main jagaunga chunancha Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne padav karliya aur hum sab lait gaye Hazrat Bilal Raziallahu Anhu bhi apni sawari se teek laga kar baith gaye aur unki aankh bhi lag gayi Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki aankh us waqt khuli jab suraj talu hochuka tha Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Hazrat Bilal Raziallahu Anhu ko jaga kar farmaya Bilal woh baat kahan gayi jo tumne humse kahi thi Unhon ne arz kiya Ya Rasulullah us zaat ki qasam jisne aapko haq ke sath bheja hai mujh par aisi neend kabhi tari nahin hui Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya Allah Ta'ala ne tumhari ruhon ko jab tak chaha apne qabze mein rakha aur jab chaha wapas lota diya phir logon ko hukum diya to woh qaza hajat ke liye muntashir hogaye wuzu kiya aur jab suraj buland hogaya to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen namaz fajr parha di.
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ: سِرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ فِي سَفَرٍ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَوْ عَرَّسْتَ بِنَا , فَقَالَ:" إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ تَنَامُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ، فَمَنْ يُوقِظُنَا لِلصَّلَاةِ؟" فَقَالَ بِلَالٌ: أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ: فَعَرَّسَ بِالْقَوْمِ، فَاضْطَجَعْنَا، وَاسْتَنَدَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ، فَغَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنَاهُ، وَاسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ طَلَعَ حَاجِبُ الشَّمْسِ، فَقَالَ:" يَا بِلَالُ، أَيْنَ مَا قُلْتَ لَنَا؟" قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ مَا أُلْقِيَتْ عَلَيَّ نَوْمَةٌ مِثْلُهَا، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَبَضَ أَرْوَاحَكُمْ حِينَ شَاءَ، وَرَدَّهَا عَلَيْكُمْ حِينَ شَاءَ" , ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُمْ، فَانْتَشَرُوا لِحَاجَتِهِمْ وَتَوَضَّأَ، فَارْتَفَعَتْ الشَّمْسُ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ الْفَجْرَ" .
