The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2335
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Fast upon sighting the crescent moon and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr upon sighting the crescent moon. If the sky is cloudy between you and the moon, then complete the count of thirty, for indeed, sometimes the month is twenty-nine days long."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”چاند دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو اور چاند دیکھ کر عید الفطر مناؤ، اگر تمہارے اور چاند کے درمیان بادل حائل ہو جائیں تو تیس کا عدد پورا کرو، البتہ بعض اوقات مہینہ انتیس کا بھی ہوتا ہے۔“
Saina Ibne Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya: Chand dekh kar roza rakho aur chand dekh kar Eid-ul-Fitr manao, agar tumhare aur chand ke darmiyan badal hail ho jayen to tees ka adad poora karo, albatta baaz auqat mahina untis ka bhi hota hai.
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ حَالَ دُونَهُ غَيَايَةٌ، فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ، وَالشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ" يَعْنِي: أَنَّهُ يكون نَاقِصٌ.
