Hadith of Abu al-Tufail 'Amir ibn Wathilah, may Allah be pleased with him.

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 23792
It is narrated on the authority of Abu al-Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was returning from the Battle of Tabuk, he ordered the caller on the way. He announced that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had taken the path of the valley, so no one should go on this path. Huzaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) was ahead of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was behind him, when suddenly a group of people on camels with their faces covered appeared in front of them and surrounded Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him). Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was behind them, he started hitting the faces of these riders. Sensing the danger, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked Huzaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) to stop the ride and got down. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) started descending from this valley. Meanwhile, Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) also came back. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him, "Ammar! Did you recognize those people?" He replied, "I recognized most of the riders, but the people had covered their faces." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do you know their intention?" He replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Their intention was to take the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and push him from above." Then Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) scolded a companion of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "I ask you by Allah, do you know how many people were in this valley?" He said fourteen. He said, "If you were also among them, then they would have been fifteen, out of which three were excused by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said, 'By Allah! We did not hear the voice of the caller of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and we did not know what the intention of these people was.” Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I bear witness that the remaining twelve people are those who fight against Allah and His Messenger both in this worldly life and on the Day of Resurrection.” Valid says that Abu al-Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) had told about this same battle that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know about the shortage of water, he told the people and the caller announced that no one should go to the water before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). But when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reached there, he found some people already present there who had reached there before him. On that day, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed and rebuked them.

حضرت ابوالطفیل رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ جب غزوہ تبوک سے واپس آرہے تھے تو راستے میں منادی کو حکم دیا اس نے یہ اعلان کردیا کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے گھاٹی کا راستہ اختیار کیا ہے اس راستے پر کوئی نہ جائے نبی کریم ﷺ کے آگے حضرت حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ تھے اور پیچھے حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ تھے کہ اچانک کچھ سواریوں پر ڈھاٹا باندھے ہوئے لوگوں کا ایک گروہ سامنے آگیا جنہوں نے حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ کو گھیر لیا حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ پیچھے تھے وہ ان سواریوں کے چہروں پر مارنے لگے نبی کریم ﷺ نے خطرے کا احساس ہوتے ہی حضرت حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے سواری روکنے کے لئے کہا اور نیچے اتر آئے پھر نبی کریم ﷺ اس گھاٹی سے اترنے لگے اسی دوران حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ بھی واپس آگئے۔ نبی کریم ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا عمار! کیا تم ان لوگوں کو پہچان سکے ہو؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا کہ اکثر سواریوں کو تو میں نے پہچان لیا ہے لیکن لوگوں نے اپنے چہروں پر ڈھاٹا باندھا ہوا تھا نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ کیا تمہیں ان کا ارادہ معلوم ہے؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا کہ اللہ اور اس کے رسول ہی بہتر جانتے ہیں نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا ان کا ارادہ یہ تھا کہ وہ نبی کریم ﷺ کو لے جائیں اور اوپر سے نیچے دھکیل دیں۔ پھر حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ نے نبی کریم ﷺ کے ایک صحابی کو سخت سست کہا اور کہا کہ میں آپ کو اللہ کی قسم دے کر پوچھتا ہوں کیا آپ کو معلوم ہے کہ اس گھاٹی میں کتنے آدمی تھے؟ اس نے کہا چودہ انہوں نے کہا کہ اگر آپ بھی ان میں شامل ہوں تو وہ پندرہ ہوتے ہیں جن میں سے تین کو نبی کریم ﷺ نے معذور قرار دیا تھا جن کا کہنا یہ تھا کہ بخدا! ہم نے نبی کریم ﷺ کے منادی کی آواز نہیں سنی تھی اور ہمیں معلوم نہیں تھا کہ ان لوگوں کا کیا ارادہ تھا؟ حضرت عمار رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ وہ بارہ آدمی جو باقی بچے وہ دنیوی زندگی اور گواہوں کے اٹھنے کے دن دونوں موقعوں پر اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے جنگ کرنے والے ہیں۔ ولید کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت ابوالطفیل رضی اللہ عنہ نے اسی غزوے کے متعلق بتایا تھا کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے " جب پانی کی قلت کا علم ہوا تو " لوگوں سے فرما دیا تھا اور منادی نے یہ اعلان کردیا تھا کہ نبی کریم ﷺ سے پہلے کوئی شخص پانی پر نہ جائے لیکن نبی کریم ﷺ جب وہاں پہنچے تو کچھ لوگوں کو وہاں موجود پایا جو ان سے پہلے وہاں پہنچ گئے تھے اس دن نبی کریم ﷺ نے انہیں لعنت ملامت کی۔
Hazrat Abulaitfail razi Allah anhu se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab Gazwa Tabook se wapas aa rahe the to raste mein munadi ko hukum diya usne ye elaan kar diya ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ghati ka rasta ikhtiyar kiya hai is raste par koi na jaye Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke aage Hazrat Huzaifa razi Allah anhu the aur peeche Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu the ki achanak kuchh sawariyon par dhata bandhe hue logon ka ek giroh samne aagaya jinhone Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu ko gher liya Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu peeche the woh in sawariyon ke chehron par marne lage Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khatre ka ehsaas hote hi Hazrat Huzaifa razi Allah anhu se sawari rokne ke liye kaha aur neeche utar aaye phir Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is ghati se utarne lage isi dauran Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu bhi wapas aagaye. Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unse poocha Ammar! kya tum in logon ko pehchan sake ho? Unhone arz kiya ki aksar sawariyon ko to maine pehchan liya hai lekin logon ne apne chehron par dhata bandha hua tha Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ki kya tumhen inka irada maloom hai? Unhone arz kiya ki Allah aur uske rasool hi behtar jante hain Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya inka irada ye tha ki woh Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko le jayen aur upar se neeche dhakil den. Phir Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu ne Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke ek sahabi ko sakht sust kaha aur kaha ki mein aapko Allah ki qasam dekar poochhta hoon kya aapko maloom hai ki is ghati mein kitne aadmi the? Usne kaha chaudah unhone kaha ki agar aap bhi in mein shamil hon to woh pandrah hote hain jin mein se teen ko Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mazdoor qarar diya tha jin ka kehna ye tha ki Khuda! humne Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke munadi ki aawaz nahin suni thi aur hamen maloom nahin tha ki in logon ka kya irada tha? Hazrat Ammar razi Allah anhu ne farmaya mein gawahi deta hoon ki woh baarah aadmi jo baqi bache woh dunyawi zindagi aur gawahon ke uthne ke din dono mauqon par Allah aur uske rasool se jung karne wale hain. Waleed kehte hain ki Hazrat Abulaitfail razi Allah anhu ne isi gazwe ke mutalliq bataya tha ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne " jab pani ki qillat ka ilm hua to " logon se farma diya tha aur munadi ne ye elaan kar diya tha ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se pehle koi shakhs pani par na jaye lekin Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab wahan pahunche to kuchh logon ko wahan maujood paya jo unse pehle wahan pahunch gaye the is din Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen laanat malamat ki.
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْوَلِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ أَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَذَ الْعَقَبَةَ، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهَا أَحَدٌ، فَبَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُودُهُ حُذَيْفَةُ وَيَسُوقُ بِهِ عَمَّارٌ إِذْ أَقْبَلَ رَهْطٌ مُتَلَثِّمُونَ عَلَى الرَّوَاحِلِ، غَشَوْا عَمَّارًا وَهُوَ يَسُوقُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَقْبَلَ عَمَّارٌ يَضْرِبُ وُجُوهَ الرَّوَاحِلِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحُذَيْفَةَ:" قَدْ، قَدْ" حَتَّى هَبَطَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا هَبَطَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلَ وَرَجَعَ عَمَّارٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا عَمَّارُ، " هَلْ عَرَفْتَ الْقَوْمَ؟" فَقَالَ: قَدْ عَرَفْتُ عَامَّةَ الرَّوَاحِلِ وَالْقَوْمُ مُتَلَثِّمُونَ، قَالَ:" هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا أَرَادُوا؟" قَالَ: اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ:" أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَنْفِرُوا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَطْرَحُوهُ" ، قَالَ: فَسَأَلَ عَمَّارٌ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: نَشَدْتُكَ بِاللَّهِ، كَمْ تَعْلَمُ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْعَقَبَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَقَدْ كَانُوا خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ، فَعَدَّدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهُمْ ثَلَاثَةً، قَالُوا: وَاللَّهِ مَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَمَا عَلِمْنَا مَا أَرَادَ الْقَوْمُ، فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ: أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ الِاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ الْبَاقِينَ حَرْبٌ لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْأَشْهَادُ، قَالَ الْوَلِيدُ: وَذَكَرَ أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ فِي تِلْكَ الْغَزْوَةِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِلنَّاسِ، وَذُكِرَ لَهُ أَنَّ فِي الْمَاءِ قِلَّةً، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى: أَنْ لَا يَرِدَ الْمَاءَ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَوَرَدَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَجَدَ رَهْطًا وَرَدُوهُ قَبْلَهُ، فَلَعَنَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ.
