Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 24303
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha (RA) that during the illness of the Prophet (PBUH), some people came to visit him in the court of Prophethood. The Prophet (PBUH) led them in prayer while sitting, and the people began to pray while standing. The Prophet (PBUH) gestured for them to sit down. When he finished the prayer, he said, "An Imam is appointed so that he may be followed. When he bows, you should bow too. When he raises his head, you should raise your heads too. And when he prays sitting down, you should pray sitting down too."

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ کی بیماری میں کچھ لوگوں کی عیادت کے لئے بارگاہ نبوت میں حاضری ہوئی، نبی ﷺ نے انہیں بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھائی اور لوگ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھنے لگے، نبی ﷺ نے انہیں بیٹھنے کا اشارہ کردیا اور نماز سے فارغ ہو کر فرمایا امام اسی لئے مقرر کیا جاتا ہے کہ اس کی اقتداء کی جائے، جب وہ رکوع کرے تو تم بھی رکوع کرو اور جب وہ سر اٹھائے تو تم بھی سر اٹھاؤ اور جب وہ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھے تو تم بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھو۔
Hazrat Ayesha razi Allah anha se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki bimari mein kuch logon ki aiyadat ke liye bargah nabuwat mein hazri hui, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen baith kar namaz parhayi aur log kharay ho kar namaz parhne lage, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen baithne ka ishara kardiya aur namaz se farigh ho kar farmaya imam isi liye muqarrar kiya jata hai ki uski iqtida ki jaye, jab wo rukuh kare to tum bhi rukuh karo aur jab wo sar uthaye to tum bhi sar uthao aur jab wo baith kar namaz parhe to tum bhi baith kar namaz parho.
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي مَرَضِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، فَصَلَّى وَخَلْفَهُ قَوْمٌ قِيَامًا، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ اجْلِسُوا، فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا، وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا" .
