Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2514
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), a delegation of Jews came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Abu'l-Qasim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! We want to ask you some questions that only a prophet knows. Answer us." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Ask me whatever you want, but promise me in the name of Allah and according to the promise that Jacob (peace be upon him) took from his sons, that if I answer you truthfully, you will embrace Islam." They said, "We promise you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Now ask, what do you want to ask?" They said, "We ask you about four things: First, tell us what food Jacob (peace be upon him) forbade himself before the Torah was revealed? Second, tell us about the water of a man and a woman, and how a child is born male? Third, tell us what is the state of a prophet's sleep? And fourth, who is the angel that brings revelation to him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do you promise me by Allah, that if I answer these questions, you will follow me?" They made a firm covenant with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I swear by the One who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you not know that once Jacob (peace be upon him) became very ill, and when his illness prolonged, he vowed in the name of Allah that if Allah cured him, he would forbid himself his most beloved drink and his most beloved food. And his most beloved food was camel meat and his most beloved drink was camel milk?" They confirmed this. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Allah! Be a witness." Then he said, "I ask you by Allah, besides Whom there is no God, and Who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you not know that a man's water is thick and white, and a woman's water is thin and yellow, and from whichever of them the water prevails, the child is born resembling that by the command of Allah? So, if the man's water prevails over the woman's water, then by the command of Allah, it is a boy, and if the woman's water prevails over the man's water, then by the command of Allah, it is a girl?" They confirmed this too. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Allah! Be a witness." Then he said, "I swear by the One who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you not know that the eyes of this unlettered Prophet sleep, but his heart does not sleep?" They said, "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Allah! Be a witness." The Jews said, "Now tell us which angel is your friend? On this we will either join you or separate from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "My friend is Gabriel, the Trustworthy, and he is the friend of every prophet whom Allah has sent." Upon hearing this, the Jews said, "Now we cannot stay with you. If any other angel besides him were your friend, we would have definitely followed and confirmed you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "What prevents you from confirming me in the presence of Gabriel, the Trustworthy?" They said, "He is our enemy." Upon this, this verse was revealed: «Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel - it is [none but] he who has brought the Qur'an down upon your heart... as if they did not know."» (Al-Baqarah: 97-101) And at that time, they returned with the wrath of Allah upon them.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ یہودیوں کا ایک وفد نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور کہنے لگا کہ اے ابوالقاسم ﷺ ! ہم آپ سے چند سوالات پوچھنا چاہتے ہیں جنہیں کسی نبی کے علاوہ کوئی نہیں جانتا، آپ ہمیں ان کا جواب دیجئے، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تم جو چاہو مجھ سے سوال پوچھو، لیکن مجھ سے اللہ کے نام پر اور حضرت یعقوب علیہ السلام کے اس وعدے کے مطابق جو انہوں نے اپنے بیٹوں سے لیا تھا، وعدہ کرو کہ میں تمہیں جو جواب دوں گا اگر تم نے اسے صحیح سمجھا تو تم اسلام پر مجھ سے بیعت کرو گے؟“ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم آپ سے وعدہ کرتے ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اب پوچھو، کیا پوچھنا چاہتے ہو۔“ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم آپ سے چار چیزوں کے متعلق سوال کرتے ہیں، ایک تو آپ ہمیں یہ بتائیے کہ وہ کون سا کھانا تھا جو حضرت یعقوب علیہ السلام نے تورات نازل ہونے سے پہلے اپنے اوپر حرام کر لیا تھا؟ دوسرا یہ بتائیے کہ عورت اور مرد کا پانی کیسا ہوتا ہے اور بچہ نر کیسے ہوتا ہے؟ تیسرا یہ بتائیے اس نبی امی کی نیند میں کیا کیفیت ہوتی ہے؟ اور چوتھا یہ کہ ان کے پاس وحی لانے والا فرشتہ کون ہے؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ ”تم مجھ سے اللہ کو سامنے رکھ کر وعدہ کرتے ہو کہ اگر میں نے تمہیں ان سوالوں کے جواب دے دیئے تو تم میری اتباع کرو گے؟“ انہوں نے نبی ﷺ سے بڑے مضبوط عہد و پیمان کر لیے۔ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میں تمہیں اس ذات کی قسم دیتا ہوں جس نے حضرت موسی علیہ السلام پر تورات کو نازل کیا، کیا تم جانتے ہو کہ ایک مرتبہ حضرت یعقوب علیہ السلام بہت سخت بیمار ہوگئے تھے، ان کی بیماری نے طول پکڑا تو انہوں نے اللہ کے نام پر یہ منت مان لی کہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں ان کی اس بیماری سے شفا عطا فرما دی تو وہ اپنا سب سے مرغوب مشروب اور سب سے مرغوب کھانا اپنے اوپر حرام کر لیں گے، اور انہیں کھانوں میں اونٹ کا گوشت اور مشروبات میں اونٹنی کا دودھ سب سے زیادہ مرغوب تھا؟“ انہوں نے اس کی تصدیق کی، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ۔“ پھر فرمایا: ”میں تمہیں اس اللہ کا واسطہ دے کر پوچھتا ہوں جس کے علاوہ کوئی معبود نہیں اور اسی نے حضرت موسی علیہ السلام پر تورات نازل کی، کیا تم جانتے ہو کہ مرد کا پانی سفید گاڑھا ہوتا ہے اور عورت کا پانی زرد پتلا ہوتا ہے، ان دونوں میں سے جس کا پانی غالب آ جائے، اللہ کے حکم سے بچہ اسی کے مشابہہ ہوتا ہے، چنانچہ اگر مرد کا پانی عورت کے پانی پر غالب آجائے تو اللہ کے حکم سے وہ لڑکا ہوتا ہے، اور اگر عورت کا پانی مرد کے پانی پر غالب آ جائے تو اللہ کے حکم سے لڑکی ہوتی ہے؟“ انہوں نے اس کی بھی تصدیق کی، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ۔“ پھر فرمایا: ”میں تمہیں اس ذات کی قسم دیتا ہوں جس نے حضرت موسی علیہ السلام پر تورات نازل کی، کیا تم جانتے ہو کہ اس نبی امی کی آنکھیں تو سوتی ہیں لیکن دل نہیں سوتا؟“ انہوں نے کہا: جی ہاں! نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ۔“ وہ یہودی کہنے لگے کہ اب آپ یہ بتائیے کہ کون سا فرشتہ آپ کا دوست ہے؟ اس پر ہم آپ سے مل جائیں گے یا جدا ہوجائیں گے، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میرے دوست جبرئیل امین ہیں اور اللہ نے جس نبی کو بھی مبعوث فرمایا ہے وہی اس کے دوست رہے ہیں۔“ یہ سن کر وہ یہودی کہنے لگے کہ اب ہم آپ کے ساتھ نہیں رہ سکتے، اگر ان کے علاوہ کوئی اور فرشتہ آپ کا دوست ہوتا تو ہم آپ کی اتباع ضرور کرتے اور آپ کی تصدیق کرتے، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ ”جبرئیل امین کی موجودگی میں تمہیں اس تصدیق سے کیا چیز روکتی ہے؟“ وہ کہنے لگے کہ وہ ہمارا دشمن ہے، اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی: «﴿قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ . . . . . كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴾ [البقرة: 97-101] » ”کہہ دیجئے جو کوئی جبریل کا دشمن ہو . . . . . جیسے وہ نہیں جانتے۔“ اور اس وقت وہ اللہ کے غضب پر غضب کو لے کر لوٹے۔
Saidna Ibne Abbas Razi Allah Anhuma se marvi hai ke yahudion ka ek wafad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur kahne laga ke aye Abu al Qasim (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hum aapse chand sawalat puchna chahte hain jinhen kisi nabi ke ilawa koi nahin janta aap hamen inka jawab deejiye Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya tum jo chaho mujhse sawal puchho lekin mujhse Allah ke nam par aur Hazrat Yaqoob Alaihissalam ke us waday ke mutabiq jo unhon ne apne beton se liya tha wada karo ke main tumhen jo jawab dun ga agar tumne use sahi samjha to tum Islam par mujhse baiat karogi unhon ne kaha ke hum aapse wada karte hain Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ab puchho kya puchna chahte ho unhon ne kaha ke hum aapse chaar chizon ke mutalliq sawal karte hain ek to aap hamen ye bataiye ke wo kaun sa khana tha jo Hazrat Yaqoob Alaihissalam ne torah nazil hone se pehle apne upar haram kar liya tha dusra ye bataiye ke aurat aur mard ka pani kaisa hota hai aur bacha nar kaise hota hai teesra ye bataiye is nabi ammi ki neend mein kya kaifiyat hoti hai aur chautha ye ke unke pass wahi lane wala farishta kaun hai Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ke tum mujhse Allah ko samne rakh kar wada karte ho ke agar maine tumhen in sawalon ke jawab de diye to tum meri ittaba karoge unhon ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se bade mazbut ahd o paiman kar liye Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya main tumhen is zaat ki qasam deta hun jisne Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam par torah ko nazil kiya kya tum jante ho ke ek martaba Hazrat Yaqoob Alaihissalam bahut sakht bimar hogaye the unki bimari ne tul pakda to unhon ne Allah ke nam par ye mannat maan li ke agar Allah Ta'ala ne unhen unki is bimari se shifa ata farma di to wo apna sab se marghub mashroob aur sab se marghub khana apne upar haram kar lenge aur unhen khanon mein unt ka goshth aur mashroobat mein untni ka doodh sab se zyada marghub tha unhon ne iski tasdeeq ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya aye Allah tu gawa reh phir farmaya main tumhen is Allah ka waseela de kar puchhta hun jiske ilawa koi mabood nahin aur isi ne Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam par torah nazil ki kya tum jante ho ke mard ka pani safed gada hota hai aur aurat ka pani zard patla hota hai in donon mein se jiska pani ghalib aa jaye Allah ke hukum se bacha usi ke mushabiha hota hai chunancha agar mard ka pani aurat ke pani par ghalib aajaye to Allah ke hukum se wo ladka hota hai aur agar aurat ka pani mard ke pani par ghalib aa jaye to Allah ke hukum se ladki hoti hai unhon ne iski bhi tasdeeq ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya aye Allah tu gawa reh phir farmaya main tumhen is zaat ki qasam deta hun jisne Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam par torah nazil ki kya tum jante ho ke is nabi ammi ki aankhen to soti hain lekin dil nahin sota unhon ne kaha ji haan Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya aye Allah tu gawa reh wo yahudi kahne lage ke ab aap ye bataiye ke kaun sa farishta aapka dost hai is par hum aapse mil jayenge ya juda hojayenge Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya mere dost Jibrail Amin hain aur Allah ne jis nabi ko bhi mabus farmaya hai wohi uske dost rahe hain ye sun kar wo yahudi kahne lage ke ab hum aapke sath nahin reh sakte agar inke ilawa koi aur farishta aapka dost hota to hum aapki ittaba zaroor karte aur aapki tasdeeq karte Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ke Jibrail Amin ki mojoodgi mein tumhen is tasdeeq se kya cheez rokti hai wo kahne lage ke wo hamara dushman hai is par ye ayat nazil hui Qul man kana adooan lijabreela ka anna hum la ya'lamoon aur is waqt wo Allah ke gazab par gazab ko lekar laute
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَهْرٌ ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : حَضَرَتْ عِصَابَةٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا، فَقَالُوا: يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، حَدِّثْنَا عَنْ خِلَالٍ نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُنَّ لَا يَعْلَمُهُنَّ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ قَالَ:" سَلُونِي عَمَّا شِئْتُمْ، وَلَكِنْ اجْعَلُوا لِي ذِمَّةَ اللَّهِ، وَمَا أَخَذَ يَعْقُوبُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام عَلَى بَنِيهِ، لَئِنْ حَدَّثْتُكُمْ شَيْئًا فَعَرَفْتُمُوهُ، لَتُتَابِعُنِّي عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ" , قَالُوا: فَذَلِكَ لَكَ , قَالَ:" فَسَلُونِي عَمَّا شِئْتُمْ" , قَالُوا: أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ أَرْبَعِ خِلَالٍ نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُنَّ: أَخْبِرْنَا أَيُّ الطَّعَامِ حَرَّمَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تُنَزَّلَ التَّوْرَاةُ؟ وَأَخْبِرْنَا كَيْفَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ، وَمَاءُ الرَّجُلِ؟ كَيْفَ يَكُونُ الذَّكَرُ مِنْهُ؟ وَأَخْبِرْنَا كَيْفَ هَذَا النَّبِيُّ الْأُمِّيُّ فِي النَّوْمِ؟ وَمَنْ وَلِيُّهُ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ؟ قَالَ:" فَعَلَيْكُمْ عَهْدُ اللَّهِ وَمِيثَاقُهُ لَئِنْ أَنَا أَخْبَرْتُكُمْ لَتُتَابِعُنِّي؟" , قَالَ: فَأَعْطَوْهُ مَا شَاءَ مِنْ عَهْدٍ وَمِيثَاقٍ , قَالَ:" فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السلاَّمَ، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ إِسْرَائِيلَ يَعْقُوبَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام، مَرِضَ مَرَضًا شَدِيدًا، وَطَالَ سَقَمُهُ، فَنَذَرَ لِلَّهِ نَذْرًا لَئِنْ شَفَاهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى مِنْ سَقَمِهِ، لَيُحَرِّمَنَّ أَحَبَّ الشَّرَابِ إِلَيْهِ، وَأَحَبَّ الطَّعَامِ إِلَيْهِ، وَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الطَّعَامِ إِلَيْهِ لُحْمَانُ الْإِبِلِ، وَأَحَبَّ الشَّرَابِ إِلَيْهِ أَلْبَانُهَا؟" , قَالُوا: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ , قَالَ:" اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ، الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ أَبْيَضُ غَلِيظٌ، وَأَنَّ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ أَصْفَرُ رَقِيقٌ، فَأَيُّهُمَا عَلَا كَانَ لَهُ الْوَلَدُ وَالشَّبَهُ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ، إِنْ عَلَا مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ عَلَى مَاءِ الْمَرْأَةِ كَانَ ذَكَرًا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ، وَإِنْ عَلَا مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى مَاءِ الرَّجُلِ كَانَ أُنْثَى بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ؟" , قَالُوا: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ , قَالَ:" اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَأَنْشُدُكُمْ بِالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ هَذَا النَّبِيَّ الْأُمِّيَّ تَنَامُ عَيْنَاهُ وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ؟" , قَالُوا: اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ , قَالَ:" اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ" , قَالُوا: وَأَنْتَ الْآنَ فَحَدِّثْنَا، مَنْ وَلِيُّكَ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ؟ فَعِنْدَهَا نُجَامِعُكَ أَوْ نُفَارِقُكَ , قَالَ:" فَإِنَّ وَلِيِّيَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام، وَلَمْ يَبْعَثْ اللَّهُ نَبِيًّا قَطُّ إِلَّا وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُ" , قَالُوا: فَعِنْدَهَا نُفَارِقُكَ، لَوْ كَانَ وَلِيُّكَ سِوَاهُ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ لَتَابَعْنَاكَ وَصَدَّقْنَاكَ , قَالَ:" فَمَا يَمْنَعُكُمْ مِنْ أَنْ تُصَدِّقُوهُ؟" , قَالُوا: إِنَّهُ عَدُوُّنَا , قَالَ:" فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ فَإِنَّهُ نَزَّلَهُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لا يَعْلَمُونَ سورة البقرة آية 97 - 101 فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ بَاءُوا بِغَضَبٍ عَلَى غَضَبٍ سورة البقرة آية 90.
