The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2551
Akarmah narrates that once some heretics were brought to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and they had some books with them. On the order of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), a fire was lit, and then he had those people along with their books burned in it. When Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) found out, he said: "If it were me, I would not have burned them in fire, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Do not punish anyone with the punishment of Allah.' Rather, I would have killed them, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Whoever apostatises and changes his religion, kill him.'"

عکرمہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس کچھ زندیق لائے گئے، ان کے پاس کچھ کتابیں بھی تھیں، سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے حکم پر آگ دہکائی گئی اور پھر انہوں نے ان لوگوں کو ان کی کتابوں سمیت نذر آتش کر دیا، سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو پتہ چلا تو فرمایا: اگر میں ہوتا تو انہیں آگ میں نہ جلاتا کیونکہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا ہے کہ ”اللہ کے عذاب جیسا عذاب کسی کو نہ دو“، بلکہ میں انہیں قتل کر دیتا، کیونکہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا ہے کہ ”جو شخص مرتد ہو کر اپنا دین بدل لے، اسے قتل کر دو۔“
Akarma kehte hain ke ek martaba Sayyiduna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke pass kuch zanadiq laaye gaye, un ke pass kuch kitaaben bhi thin, Sayyiduna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke hukm par aag dehkai gayi aur phir unhon ne un logon ko un ki kitaabon samet nazar aatish kar diya, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ko pata chala to farmaya: agar main hota to unhen aag mein na jalata kyunki Nabi SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya hai ke ”Allah ke azab jaisa azab kisi ko na do“, balke main unhen qatl kar deta, kyunki Nabi SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya hai ke ”jo shakhs murtad ho kar apna deen badal le, usay qatl kar do“.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أُتِيَ بِقَوْمٍ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الزَّنَادِقَةِ وَمَعَهُمْ كُتُبٌ، فَأَمَرَ بِنَارٍ فَأُجِّجَتْ، ثُمَّ أَحْرَقَهُمْ وَكُتُبَهُمْ، قَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ: فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقَالَ: لَوْ كُنْتُ أَنَا لَمْ أُحْرِقْهُمْ، لِنَهْيِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَلَقَتَلْتُهُمْ، لِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" مَنْ بَدَّلَ دِينَهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ" , وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" لَا تُعَذِّبُوا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ".
