The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2691
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the order of the prohibition of alcohol was revealed, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! What will be the fate of our brothers who passed away before and used to drink it before its prohibition?” Upon this, this verse was revealed: “There is no sin on those who believe and do righteous deeds, for what they used to eat (or drink)” [Al-Ma'idah: 93]. And when the order of changing the direction of prayer (qibla) was revealed, people asked: “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! What will be the fate of our companions who prayed facing Jerusalem and passed away in the same state?” Upon this, this verse was revealed: “And Allah would never cause your faith to be lost” [Al-Baqarah: 143].

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ جب حرمت شراب کا حکم نازل ہوا تو صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! ہمارے ان بھائیوں کا کیا ہوگا جن کا پہلے انتقال ہو گیا اور وہ اس کی حرمت سے پہلے اسے پیتے تھے؟ اس پر یہ آیت نزل ہوئی: «﴿لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا﴾ [المائدة: 93] » ”ان لوگوں پر جو ایمان لائے اور نیک اعمال کرتے رہے، کوئی حرج نہیں جو انہوں نے پہلے کھا لیا (یا پی لیا)۔“ اور جب تحویل قبلہ کا حکم نازل ہوا تو لوگوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! ہمارے وہ ساتھی جو بیت المقدس کی طرف رخ کر کے نماز پڑھتے رہے اور اسی حال میں فوت ہو گئے، ان کا کیا بنے گا؟ اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی: «﴿وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ﴾ [البقرة: 143] » ”اللہ تمہاری نمازوں کو ضائع کرنے والا نہیں ہے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas raza Allahu anhuma se marvi hai ki jab hurmat sharaab ka hukm nazil hua to Sahaba kiram raza Allahu anhum ne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! Hamare un bhaiyon ka kya hoga jin ka pahle inteqal ho gaya aur wo is ki hurmat se pahle ise peete the? Is par ye ayat nazil hui: «﴿laisa alal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus salihati junaahun feema ta'amoo﴾ [almaidah: 93] » ”un logon par jo iman laye aur nek amal karte rahe, koi harj nahin jo unhon ne pahle kha liya (ya pi liya).“ Aur jab tahweel qibla ka hukm nazil hua to logon ne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! Hamare wo sathi jo Baitul Muqaddas ki taraf rukh kar ke namaz parhte rahe aur isi hal mein foot ho gaye, un ka kya bane ga? Is par ye ayat nazil hui: «﴿wama kana Allahu li yuz ee'a imanakum﴾ [albaqarah: 143] » ”Allah tumhari namaazon ko zaya karne wala nahin hai.“.
حَدَّثَنَا شَاذَانُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ:" لَمَّا حُرِّمَتْ الْخَمْرُ، قَالَ أُنَاسٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَصْحَابُنَا الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يَشْرَبُونَهَا؟ فَأُنْزِلَتْ: لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا سورة المائدة آية 93 , قَالَ: وَلَمَّا حُوِّلَتْ الْقِبْلَةُ، قَالَ أُنَاسٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَصْحَابُنَا الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ؟ فَأُنْزِلَتْ: وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ سورة البقرة آية 143".
