The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2836
Abu Majlaz said, “I once asked Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Witr prayer. He replied, ‘I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: ‘Witr is one rak'ah at the end of the night.’ Then I asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about it and he gave the same reply.”

ابومجلز کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ایک مرتبہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے وتر کے بارے پوچھا تو انہوں نے فرمایا کہ میں نے نبی ﷺ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ ”وتر کی ایک رکعت ہوتی ہے رات کے آخری حصے میں۔“ پھر میں نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے اس کے متعلق پوچھا تو انہوں نے بھی یہی جواب دیا۔
Abumajlaz kehte hain ke maine ek martaba syedna ibne abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se witr ke bare pucha to unhon ne farmaya ke maine nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko ye farmate huye suna hai ke ”witr ki ek rakat hoti hai raat ke aakhri hisse mein.“ phir maine syedna ibne umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se iske mutalliq pucha to unhon ne bhi yahi jawab diya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الْوَتْرِ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ:" رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ". وَسَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ؟ فَقَال: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ:" رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ".
