The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2837
Shahab Ambari said: Once, I went to visit Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) with a friend. At the door of his house, we met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked: "Who are you two?" We introduced ourselves. He said: "People are eating dates and drinking water, you should go there too. Every valley's flow is according to its capacity." We requested: "It would be an additional act of kindness from you, if when you go inside, you could also seek permission from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) for us." So, he sought permission for us too. At that time, we heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that during the Battle of Tabuk, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said in a sermon: "There is no comparison between the one who is holding the reins of his horse, striving in the way of Allah, and protecting himself from evil people, and the one who stays in the villages, tending to his goats, showing hospitality to guests, and fulfilling their rights." I asked him three times: "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say this?" And he replied three times: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said this." Upon hearing this, I exclaimed "Allahu Akbar" and thanked Allah.

شہاب عنبری کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں اپنے ایک دوست کے ساتھ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، وہاں سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے گھر کے دروازے پر ہی سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے ملاقات ہو گئی، انہوں نے پوچھا: تم دونوں کون ہو؟ ہم نے انہیں اپنے متعلق بتایا، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ لوگ کھجوریں اور پانی کھا پی رہے ہیں، تم بھی وہاں چلے جاؤ، ہر وادی کا بہاؤ اس کی وسعت کے بقدر ہوتا ہے، ہم نے عرض کیا کہ آپ کی خیر میں اور اضافہ ہو، جب آپ اندر جائیں تو ہمارے لئے بھی سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے اجازت لیجئے گا، چنانچہ انہوں نے ہمارے لئے بھی اجازت حاصل کی۔ اس موقع پر ہم نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو نبی ﷺ کے حوالے سے یہ حدیث بیان کرتے ہوئے سنا کہ نبی ﷺ نے غزوہ تبوک کے موقع پر خطبہ دیتے ہوئے ارشاد فرمایا: ”لوگوں میں اس شخص کی مثال ہی نہیں ہے جو اپنے گھوڑے کی لگام پکڑے ہوئے ہو، اللہ کے راستہ میں جہاد کرتا ہو اور برے لوگوں سے بچتا ہو، اسی طرح وہ آدمی جو دیہات میں اپنی بکریوں میں مگن رہتا ہو، مہمانوں کی مہمان نوازی کرتا ہو اور ان کا حق ادا کرتا ہو۔“ میں نے تین مرتبہ ان سے پوچھا: کیا نبی ﷺ نے یہ بات فرمائی ہے؟ اور انہوں نے تینوں مرتبہ یہی جواب دیا کہ نبی ﷺ نے یہ بات فرمائی ہے، اس پر میں نے اللہ اکبر کہا اور اللہ کا شکر ادا کیا۔
Shahab Anbari kehte hain ke ek martaba main apne ek dost ke sath Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ki khidmat mein hazir hua, wahan Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ke ghar ke darwaze par hi Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se mulaqat ho gai, unhon ne poocha: Tum dono kaun ho? Hum ne unhen apne mutalliq bataya, unhon ne farmaya ke log khajoorein aur pani kha pi rahe hain, tum bhi wahan chale jao, har wadi ka bahao uski wusat ke baqadr hota hai, hum ne arz kiya ke aap ki khair mein aur izafa ho, jab aap andar jayen to hamare liye bhi Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se ijazat lijiye ga, chunancha unhon ne hamare liye bhi ijazat hasil ki. Is mauqe par hum ne Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ko Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke hawale se ye hadees bayan karte huye suna ke Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Ghazwa Tabuk ke mauqe par khutba dete huye irshad farmaya: "Logon mein us shakhs ki misal hi nahin hai jo apne ghore ki lagam pakde huye ho, Allah ke raaste mein jihad karta ho aur bure logon se bachta ho, isi tarah wo aadmi jo dehaaton mein apni bakriyon mein magan rehta ho, mehmano ki mehman nawazi karta ho aur unka haq ada karta ho." Main ne teen martaba un se poocha: Kya Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ye baat farmaee hai? Aur unhon ne teeno martaba yahi jawab diya ke Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ye baat farmaee hai, is par main ne Allahu Akbar kaha aur Allah ka shukar ada kiya.
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ شِهَابٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، يَقُولُ: أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَا وَصَاحِبٌ لِي، فَلَقِينَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عِنْدَ بَابِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ أَنْتُمَا؟ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ، فَقَالَ: انْطَلِقَا إِلَى نَاسٍ عَلَى تَمْرٍ وَمَاءٍ، إِنَّمَا يَسِيلُ كُلُّ وَادٍ بِقَدَرِهِ. قَالَ: قُلْنَا كَثُرَ خَيْرُكَ، اسْتَأْذِنْ لَنَا عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: فَاسْتَأْذَنَ لَنَا فَسَمِعْنَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ تَبُوكَ، فَقَالَ:" مَا فِي النَّاسِ مِثْلُ رَجُلٍ أَخَذَ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ، فَيُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، وَيَجْتَنِبُ شُرُورَ النَّاسِ، وَمِثْلُ رَجُلٍ بَادٍ فِي غَنَمِهِ، يَقْرِي ضَيْفَهُ، وَيُؤَدِّي حَقَّهُ"، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَقَالَهَا؟ قَالَ: قَالَهَا. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَقَالَهَا؟ قَالَ: قَالَهَا. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَقَالَهَا؟ قَالَ: قَالَهَا. فَكَبَّرْتُ اللَّهَ، وَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ، وَشَكَرْتُ.
