The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3127
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyidna 'Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) would grant permission to the Companions of Badr to enter his presence, he would also grant me permission to join them. Some of the Companions of Badr would say, "Sayyidna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) grants permission to this young boy to join us, while we have sons like him?" When this reached Sayyidna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said, "He is knowledgeable." One day, Sayyidna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) granted permission to the Companions of Badr to enter his presence, and he graciously allowed me to join them as well. He asked them about the Surah An-Nasr (Chapter of Victory). They said, "Allah Almighty commanded His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this Surah to engage in Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and repentance when he achieves victory." Then they asked me, "O Ibn 'Abbas! What do you say?" I replied, "My opinion is different. In fact, in this Surah, Allah Almighty informed His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the approaching time of his death and said that when help from Allah comes and Makkah is conquered, and you see people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes, then this is a sign of your departure. Therefore, glorify your Lord with His praise and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is the Most Accepting of repentance." Upon hearing this, Sayyidna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Now you have seen, then how can you blame me?"

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ سیدنا عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ جب اہل بدر کو اپنے پاس آنے کی اجازت دیتے تو ان کی موجودگی میں مجھے بھی شریک ہونے کی اجازت دے دیتے، بعض اصحاب بدر کہنے لگے کہ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ اس نوجوان کو تو ہمارے ساتھ شریک ہونے کی اجازت دے دیتے ہیں جبکہ اس جیسے تو ہمارے بیٹے بھی ہیں؟ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کو پتہ چلا تو فرمایا: یہ سمجھدار ہے۔ ایک دن سیدنا عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ نے اصحاب بدر کو اپنے پاس آنے کی اجازت دی اور مجھے بھی ان کے ساتھ اجازت مرحمت فرمائی، اور ان سے سورہ نصر کے متعلق دریافت کیا، وہ کہنے لگے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس سورت میں اپنے نبی ﷺ کو حکم دیا ہے کہ جب انہیں فتح یابی ہو تو وہ استغفار اور توبہ کریں، پھر انہوں نے مجھ سے پوچھا کہ اے ابن عباس! تم کیا کہتے ہو؟ میں نے عرض کیا کہ میرے رائے یہ نہیں ہے، دراصل اس سورت میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے نبی ﷺ کو ان کی موت کا وقت قریب آ جانے کی خبر دی ہے اور فرمایا ہے کہ جب اللہ کی طرف سے مدد آجائے اور مکہ مکرمہ فتح ہو جائے، اور آپ لوگوں کو دین الٰہی میں فوج در فوج شامل ہوتے ہوئے دیکھ لیں تو یہ آپ کے وصال کی علامت ہے، اس لئے آپ اپنے رب کی حمد کے ساتھ اس کی تسبیح بیان کیجئے اور اس سے استغفار کیجئے، بیشک وہ بڑا توبہ قبول کرنے والا ہے، یہ سن کر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا: اب تم نے دیکھ لیا، پھر تم مجھے کس طرح ملامت کر سکتے ہو؟
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (رضي الله تعالى عنه) jab Ahle Badr ko apne pass aane ki ijazat dete to un ki mojoodgi mein mujhe bhi shareek hone ki ijazat de dete, baaz Ashab Badr kehne lage ki Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) is naujawan ko to humare sath shareek hone ki ijazat de dete hain jabke is jaise to humare bete bhi hain? Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko pata chala to farmaya: Yeh samajhdaar hai. Ek din Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne Ashab Badr ko apne pass aane ki ijazat di aur mujhe bhi un ke sath ijazat marhamat farmaee, aur un se Surah Nasr ke mutalliq daryaft kiya, woh kehne lage ki Allah Ta'ala ne is Surah mein apne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko hukum diya hai ki jab unhen fatah yabi ho to woh istighfar aur tauba karen, phir unhon ne mujhse poochha ki aye Ibn Abbas! Tum kya kehte ho? Mein ne arz kiya ki mere rai yeh nahin hai, darasal is Surah mein Allah Ta'ala ne apne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko un ki maut ka waqt qareeb aa jaane ki khabar di hai aur farmaya hai ki jab Allah ki taraf se madad ajaye aur Makkah Mukarramah fatah ho jaye, aur aap logon ko Deen Elahi mein fouj dar fouj shamil hote hue dekh len to yeh aap ke wisal ki alamat hai, is liye aap apne Rabb ki hamd ke sath us ki tasbeeh bayan kijiye aur us se istighfar kijiye, beshak woh bada tauba qubool karne wala hai, yeh sunkar Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne farmaya: Ab tum ne dekh liya, phir tum mujhe kis tarah malamat kar sakte ho?.
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَأْذَنُ لِأَهْلِ بَدْرٍ، وَيَأْذَنُ لِي مَعَهُمْ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: يَأْذَنُ لِهَذَا الْفَتَى مَعَنَا، وَمِنْ أَبْنَائِنَا مَنْ هُوَ مِثْلُهُ؟! فَقَالَ: عُمَرُ إِنَّهُ ممَنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ، قَالَ: فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، وَأَذِنَ لِي مَعَهُمْ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ عَنْ هَذِهِ السُّورَةِ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ فَقَالُوا:" أَمَرَ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا فُتِحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرَهُ وَيَتُوبَ إِلَيْهِ". فَقَالَ لِي: مَا تَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: لَيْسَتْ كَذَلِكَ، وَلَكِنَّهُ أَخْبَرَ نَبِيَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ بِحُضُورِ أَجَلِهِ، فَقَالَ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ، وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا سورة النصر آية 2 فَذَلِكَ عَلَامَةُ مَوْتِكَ، فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا سورة النصر آية 3 فَقَالَ: لَهُمْ كَيْفَ تَلُومُونِي عَلَى مَا تَرَوْنَ؟.
