The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3235
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) combined the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers in Madinah. There was neither a journey nor rain at that time. Someone asked Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) what the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) purpose was. He replied that the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) purpose was that your Ummah should not be in hardship and that there should be ease for them.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے مدینہ منورہ میں ظہر اور عصر کو اور مغرب اور عشا کو جمع فرمایا، اس وقت نہ کوئی سفر تھا اور نہ ہی بارش، کسی نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ اس سے نبی ﷺ کا مقصد کیا تھا؟ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ آپ ﷺ کا مقصد یہ تھا کہ آپ کی امت تنگی میں نہ رہے اور اس کے لئے کشادگی ہو جائے۔
Sayyida Ibn Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki aik martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Madina Munawwara mein Zuhr aur Asr ko aur Maghrib aur Isha ko jama farmaya, us waqt na koi safar tha aur na hi barish, kisi ne Sayyida Ibn Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se poocha ki is se Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka maqsad kya tha? Unhon ne jawab diya ki aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka maqsad ye tha ki aap ki ummat tangi mein na rahe aur is ke liye kushadgi ho jaye.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي صَالِحٌ مَوْلَى التَّوْءَمَةِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ:" جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ، وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فِي، غَيْرِ مَطَرٍ وَلَا سَفَرٍ. قَالُوا: يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ، مَا أَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: التَّوَسُّعَ عَلَى أُمَّتِهِ".
