Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4559
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Once a person asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! How should we pray at night? He said: “Pray two rak'ahs each, and when you fear the dawn is approaching, then offer one rak'ah witr with them."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ ایک شخص نے نبی کریم ﷺ سے پوچھا: یا رسول اللہ!! رات کی نماز کس طرح پڑھی جائے؟ فرمایا: ”تم دو دو رکعت کر کے نماز پڑھا کرو اور جب صبح ہو جانے کا اندیشہ ہو تو ان دو کے ساتھ بطور وتر کے ایک رکعت اور ملا لو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba ek shakhs ne Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se pucha: Ya Rasulullah!! Raat ki namaz kis tarah parhi jaye? Farmaya: ”Tum do do rakat kar ke namaz parrha karo aur jab subah ho jane ka andesha ho to in do ke sath ba tawr witr ke ek rakat aur mila lo.“
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم َسُئِلَ كَيْفَ يُصَلَّى بِاللَّيْلِ؟ قَالَ:" لِيُصَلِّ أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ، فَلْيُوتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ".
