Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4565
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to take an oath of allegiance on the condition of listening and obeying. Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say, "According to your capacity." (That is, you will listen and obey as much as you are able).

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ بات سننے اور اطاعت کر نے کی شرط پر بیعت لیا کرتے تھے پھر فرماتے تھے کہ حسب استطاعت (جہاں تک ممکن ہو گا تم بات سنو گے اور مانو گے)۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) baat sunne aur itaat karne ki shart par bai't liya karte thay phir farmate thay ki hasb-e-istita'at (jahan tak mumkin ho ga tum baat suno ge aur mano ge).
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ الله صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُبَايِعُ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ:" فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ"، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: فَيُلَقِّنُ أَحَدَنَا:" فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ".
